    Tumble dryer

Has anyone become an expert on buying tumble dryers recently?

I want a smallish condenser dryer, to be kept in the garage. No bells and whistles required, just something reasonably efficient and kind to my clothes.

I got a Beko dryer in graphite grey a few months back to replace a whirlpool. It is very good, looks nice, has a light when you open the door, it stops automatically when everything is dry. Was happily surprised with how well and quickly it dries, much better than expected. Yes it is not a Miele but at a fraction of the cost its good value.

Might be more than I need to/want to pay.

We have a Bosch cost about £400 iirc, does all sorts of whizzy things but we just chuck clothes in it and it dries them quickly. A full load takes about an hour and a half but it does some kind of voodoo and adjusts the drying time according to weight or something. It'll also give the clothes a little spin every 15 minutes or so to stop them reabsorbing moisture if you leave them in rather than immediately taking them out.
Before we moved we had an LG washer dryer - cost a packet but was brilliant and afaik it's still going strong as we gave it to a friends daughter when she moved into her 1st house.

What ever you DONT buy one with an air source heat pump!!! They need lots of heat in the room to start with to get anything dry, they are really cheap to run as they are so rubbish. Worst thing I’ve ever bought.

Just get a cheap Beko. Avoid Whirpool brands (Whirlpool, Hotpoint, Indesit).

^ we have a Beko condenser dryer bought in 2014 has gone from garage to shed to utility room and is going strong. Top load water container so very easy to empty.

Looks like a later version of what we have and has served it purpose admirably

We got a new Miele last year. Not a fan anymore! Programs take 2x the amount of time compared with the old one, due to the Curse of energy saving.

I have an indesit condenser in a rental that is now some 14 years old and it is still going strong. Bought from B&Q very reasonably IIRC.

    Warning.
I put my condenser t/drier in the garage, but because it is always about 10C in there, it makes the garage damp.
    Next one will be vented.
Hotpoint. Has had fire fix done for free.

I guess that there are downsides to each type, in a cold garage. The venting machine will be heating very low temp/damp air to 40c(ish) all the time it is running - a tad expensive to run.

Blomberg, I’d never heard of them either but my local white goods shop (optimum in Southwick) was raving about them so bought the cheapest model and am totally happy with it. I do tons of washing everyday so it gets properly tested too.

If it’s in a garage why go condensing? Just vent it. Much more efficient.
