A couple of guilty pleasures I never tire of
Me and the Elephant - Gene Cotton
Escape (The Pina Colada Song) - Rupert Holmes

When I go for a constitutional I generally take my old Ipod and put on the same old walk playlist, to try and keep my pace up

Do Anything You Want To Do - Eddie and the Hotrods
Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin
The Timewarp - Rickard O'Brien, Patricia Quinn, et al.
    Tubthumping - Chumba Wumba
    Thunderstruck - ACDC
I Want You Back - Jackson Five
    Blowin' Free - Wishbone Ash

  2. #52
Quite a bit of Van Morrison
Especially “when the prophet speaks”. “Vanlose stairway”
And Mark knopflers concert- length versions of telegraph road.

Christ alive there's some weird middle of the road stuff there........grin!

    Totally agree with the following two though;

    Small Faces - Tin Soldier

    Jackson 5 - I want you back

    But for me there is one song that just always makes me smile/dance........you must be dead if you don't at least tap along to this;

A fairly eclectic mix for me. In no particular order-

Phantom of the Opera - Iron Maiden
Is this the life - Cardiacs
Uncertain Smile - The The. Jools Holland’s solo is epic
Down to the River - Alison Krauss
    Paranoid Android - Radiohead
Gin and Juice - Snoop ( my guilty pleasure!)
    Disgraceful - Dubstar
    High Hopes - Pink Floyd
    Salva Mia - Faithless
Won’t get fooled again - The Who
    Unintended - Muse
    Barcelona - Freddy M and Montserrat C

That lot on loop would keep me going for hours.

    Chicane - Offshore
    Sneaker Pimps - Six Underground
Zero 7 - Give It Away

Songs I must have listened to thousands of times. Never get sick of them.

Indeed - true genius. I considered including a few Queen/Freddy tracks but ultimately decided to stick to one only.

However I am going to break my self- imposed rule and propose a second track by Cardiacs and their recently departed lead, the mad yet brilliant Tim Smith. The track is ‘Dirty Boy’; nine minutes of the most raw, intense, complex and absorbing sound one could ever imagine - an utterly remarkable composition. RIP Tim.

I've listened to Roger Waters' Amused to Death at least three times a week (sometimes a lot more) for the last 28 years...

Even conservatively that's 4300 times, although I suspect it's way over 5000 in reality !

    Ditto.

    Wonderful songwriter and performer.

He stopped the show in the film of The Band's last waltz with Caravan too.
    Cheers,

Any link between your username and the band?

Loved this version too, loved the concert and love The Band in general, but the semi-orchestral, live version with the Caledonia Soul Orchestra takes top spot.

The orchestral recording is far superior.

A bit unconventional, but I rather like this death metal cover version.

Some really good stuff to investigate here 👌 cheers!

Too many to mention for me really but one I stumbled across recently that struck a chord (pun intended !). Quite a voice paired with a quality group IMO...

TBH I could have posted the entirety of Stop Making Sense but I chose Life During Wartime in the spirit of the thread and because the lyrics have a specific resonance.

I must have a dozen of their albums. Haven't listened to them in a while, mind.

Some interesting choices listed, and some are worth an investigation.
For me Thunder Road has to be my favourite song of all time so that would top my list.
Film Noir by the Gaslight Anthem is another favourite, I probably listen to their album 59 sound one a month or so.
Head by Lydia Loveless is another regularly reoccurring tune on my play list.

Can remember it being released and buying the LP. Made even more haunting by its use in the film The Exorcist.

I listen to Everything But The Girl a lot.

Things like Missing, Hatfield 1980, Walking Wounded, Troubled Mind, We Walk The Same Line and Driving are all candidates (as are many others), but the one that I think I could tolerate for longest is "Twin Cities"

I like the sentiment and Tracie Thorn's voice is at its languid best.
