Two new limited edition 55th anni Seiko divers.

Posted on Instagram today via official Seiko channels.

SLA043 limited to 1700 pieces and spb183 limited to 5500 pieces.

Especially like the blue dial Willard spb183

Maybe its just me however Seiko seem to be releasing many limited editions, in my mind it takes away from the exclusivity side of things.

Seems like they took a page out of Omega / Panerai book, first make historical limited edition and upon seeing it is popular make the same limited edition every year in slightly different shade (looking at SLA017).

Seiko certainly do seem to be banging them out, but at least they are accessible to those who want one.

I do like that blue dialled SLA043 though...

Agree on both points. Nearly hard to pick a seiko though there's so many (I have a few) and you'd almost feel if you just hold off another week or two there'll be something else launched

The Willard looks sharp but how limited is a 5500 production run really?

I fully understand what you are saying, but limited edition literally means a finite number will be produced, in this case 5500, and not necessarily a small number.

Exactly. Limited run made however enough to be able to get one which I like actually.

I wonder how many are correctly aligned?

    They do look good though.

Looks at how much money is in the watch pot.

Looks online at the SLA043 and sees the price.

Realises that sadly there is not enough money in the watch pot (by a long way).

Nice but seems very expensive compared to a Black Bay.

I've been watching them doing that since the 70s of the last century. It is just a case of when you are going to get off the train that will never stop. Just when I said no more Seikos... they brought out the spring drive. So I had to try that. These days I am fascinated by some of their dials. Damn them.

The dark blue on my pair of LEs is a lovely colour, and goes very well with a number of different straps. Here's my SLA039.

Liking the look of that strap, would you mind sharing where it's from?

Would be perfect for my 037

Mid case of the new 043 is brushed unlike the zaratsu mid case on the 037, gives it more of a tool watch look but still unsure of the blue seconds hand. Really do like the Willard, must get out to try one on for size.

I don't mind at all - it's a Crown & Buckle Chevron - they really are my go-to nylon straps at the moment, I love them. Here's the SLA, and the same strap on my SPB149.

Crikey, that blue Willard looks banging.

It's encouraging that they're releasing limited editions of it. Hopefully it will stick around in the line-up and there will be more versions in future.

Blimey, I assumed the Willard was a 4k SLA! They may sell out very quickly at that price.

    For this money ...

I think, I go for a humble Heimdallr 62 MAS Shark (SII NH35A)

Saw a real life picture on Instagram which shows the colors better compared to the renders.

Congrats. Really curious what the quality looks and feels like. It’s clear Seiko prices have followed the market trend up, this puts the Willard outside of my “insta-buy” range.

Would be 4-5 times more expensive compared to my padi turtle. While I wouldn’t expect the same increase in quality I do wonder how much better finished it is. Have to see a Willard in the flesh one day but not too many around.

I agree, when I think back to the various Seiko's that I've owned and sold over the years, MM300, Emperor Tuna, SBBN015, PADI Turtle etc and the prices that I sold them for, I can't imagine that the cost to quality ratio is going to stack up on this new watch, but watch prices from all brands seem to have gone crazy over the last 2-3 years.

It was very impulsive purchase yesterday but I hope this one pleasantly surprises me, and it'll be my only blue watch.

  39. #39
I have been offered a SLA043 which will be available from next week when released. The price would be £3600 which represents roughly a 10% discount.

I would prefer a SLA017 due to the dial colour but as they seem all very over priced now I am thinking I may be better off with the new release.

What are the general thoughts on the SLA043 model, have Seiko now over done the whole limited thing?

I think SLA043 is a very good choice. Also only 1700 pcs seems to be a reasonable amount to call it still limited edition. I am sure the price will go up in future same as SLA017 did.
If I would have enough free money to send on watches SLA043 would be my choice atm.

I’m not concerned about it gaining value but would prefer it not to tank in value either.

It’s the blue seconds hand I am not sure about, and the fact Seiko just seem to be releasing LE after LE.

Understood. I think (hope) blue seconds hand could look better in person.
You are right, there are sooooo many LE recently. Looks like it is a very popular selling strategy among other watchmaking companies tho. I gues it sells better than.

I would buy no Seiko, especially at that price, without handling it in person first.

Their QC in recent years has been far too sloppy.

I have my name down for one at full retail, which does make me a bit nervous as £4K can buy you a lot of watch around here, especially used.

That said, I really like the look of the fully brushed case on the 043, the 017 always looked a bit too shiny to me.

It would be nice to see a few more real life images of the watch vs renders and promo shots, I can't help but feel that I'm rolling the dice a little.

Hi all. Long term reader but my first post here. I'm TH14 on WUS where I've posted more regularly. Just to let people know that Watcho have one pre-order of the SLA043 in stock. If you use the code WIN15 you get a 15% discount. I haven't used Watcho before so can't vouch for the company but thought I'd pass the details on as it's the best price I've seen. Hope it helps.

I just tried to search for that (SLA043) and got nowhere.. Found their website a pain to use as well but that could be my outdated browser on the work laptop..

thanks for the link! I would never have found that :)

very tempted at that discounted price..

I have had the SLA017 which I still miss now even though I have the SLA033.. I would have bought the Hi Beat version as I love the colour but was put off by the price and the increased thickness - compared to the SLA017..

mmmhh, checking the watch box now to see what could make way for it!

I wonder how the dial colour of the SLA043 compares to the Hi Beat 037? it's a shame the Seiko renders are usually so poor, would be better if they could take some real photos..

Thanks for the heads up mate, I cancelled my other order and went with your link...£600 saved...not sure the wife will see it that way, but that's another story.
