    Seiko Spork.....are you serious

    Gratuitous photo of mine.

Have these now really become a £1000+ watch.

I mean seriously, most I see for sale on a certain site seem to be asking around this figure for them.

I know the Seiko gen2 orange and Drac Monsters are shooting up...but is it just the collectors paying this amount.

There are some serious prestige brands that can be had for similar money.

    Thoughts???

Crikey, that's an increase - they're attractive in a Sinn-like way but not at that price.

For that money I'd buy a DA46 or DA47 without a second thought

You can ask what you want but is anyone paying that?

Depends where you seen the sale price? If its eBay then its part of the course to sell/ask at an inflated price.

I just seen an MM300 in not great condition - asking £2999.00, that must make my near perfect example £4k+!

Yes I guess it's inflated even so 6-700 is where they seem to sell at... so whats that about 3X original retail.

I just do not see the logic involved with things like this that command a high value, I can see why a one off work of art or a 100 year old mahogany table has a good value, just dont get how a cheap seiko with hardlex crystal and bottom of the line movement that was produced in the 1000,s can have such a value. Maybe its just me. I purchased one of these, I sold mine but my brother still has his and no way is this watch in my opinion worth anywhere near that amount lol.

    Couldn't agree more.

    People get some funny ideas.

You can get a used Sinn or Damasko for that money.
    Cheers,

I was thinking on getting one for quite some time. Great watch but a bit pricey now considering it is a tuned skx...4s inside (no hacking), hardlex (no sapphire). I guess popularity comes from pilot-diver sinneiko design...

A better way to judge prices is to check completed listings box - this will give the price paid for the item if it is green, if unsold it is red.

Just check ebay and the sold prices range from GBP 350-600

My opinion of how these things gain value is exactly what is happening here, someone will at some stage pay near this over inflated price, then the next seller will check previous prices and see one has sold for £900, they will then price theirs around that mark, that sells and it just perpetuates. What it boils down to initially is some mug will pay over the odds, setting a precedence for the next mug and so on.

That can also happen if two or more unscrupulous dealers get together to manipulate the market.

    Seiko Spork.....are you serious

I effing hate that site. It used to possible to obtain an SKX033 for £75. It has morphed into an alibaba outlet and is full of chancers, price gougers and con artists.

Example, I was looking at a Seiko that was listed for £800 and the seller was only prepared
to post Royal Mail 2nd class”.

    ok....

Are they actually that sought after now? Ears pricked up here, I've got one sat in a box I don't use. Would much prefer a spork! What prices are the dracs reaching?

Wow...impressive! Genuinely curious as to why you’d buy so many?

It would be nice if the Chinese would clone the Spork, I am sure they could make a nice copy with Sapphire and a ceramic insert, they certainly would be popular.

As an aside, I had a canter round Argyll Arcade yesterday, and the price being asked for the latest crop of Seiko 5s had me SMH as the kids say.

Just re read my original post just to clarify I had 8 monsters not all Dracs.

I think at one point they were doing about 550 650

But now it seems 4 450 is about were they are at.

Iirc I got 500 for mine.

I remember the drac monsters getting panned when they came out. Most interesting comment was someone describing the dial is looking like the mouth of some kind of deep sea creature.

As for the regular monsters, well built but awful time keeping seemed to be the standard comment (Bit like your average Seiko 5)

How much? They were £100 - £150 when they came out and that was only a few years ago we are not talking about some 50 year old vintage watch.

The last two completed sales on ebay suggest £380 & £420 (each in mid Nov) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_f...pg=50&_fosrp=1

That is as much or more than their true value, I am not sure where people are coming up with prices of £600 to £700 from, Just chancers I guess and if some mug bites then they are laughing.

One imagines these nicknames are common currency among those who give their car a name.

"Camel Toe", excepted. That one was genius.
