    anOrdain: Amazing

I’ve only just become aware of this Scottish watchmaker. The Fume dials are some of the most amazing I’ve seen, and look very strong value at £1800.

It’s great when the Rolex blinkers come off :)

Value is a very personal thing, but to me that seems totally worth it

I really like what the brand is doing, but I find it difficult to actually like their designs/watches. So sadly not one on my radar. But if the design works for you, then a great way to buy into independent watch-making.

Well the good news that it has a waterproof rating of 5 ATM. That means it should be just about safe for doing the washing up.

I would expect better in 2020.

Mick, do any of our watches get immersed? Mine don’t, other than a Vostok Amfibia. Not sure WR trumps independent horological effort

You’d be ok in your sit down shower then.

I swim wearing every watch I own and that includes my 1980 1655 Explorer11. That is the joy of Rolex, you just trust them.

I wouldn't wear that anOrdain in a sit down shower, that's for sure.

Less of a watch and more of an ornament – like something my nan would have put on a stand on the sideboard

I think the watch’s USP is artisan dial manufacture.

If waterproofing is all, I have a £40 Vostok that works really well, so Rolex money isn’t required

I have a few watches that I do not wear on the bog/in the sit down shower/bath - it's not a criteria I use when I buy.

    Other ridiculous views are available.

The point I am making is that anyone who pays £1800 for a watch should expect better protection than just 5 ATM.

And Roger Smith needs a pricing rethink for his boxes of cogs that he'll only test to 2.2 bar.

Ran a quick search of new watches on C24 with this exact rating. Came up with nearly 37,000 items, including most Royal Oak, Speedmaster & El Primero models; plus most of the ranges offered by Ulysse Nardin, Hublot, Richard Mille, Vulcain, Perellet, Chopard, &c ad nauseam - all the way up to £1.2 million. Gotta hazard a wild guess it's a pretty conservative rating and adequate for all likely scenarios when you're talking about the dress and dressy-sports niche that AnOrdain occupy.

It's a bloody dress watch. 50m is more than sufficient.

God knows what you think of Pateks, most of which have 30m WR. The Nautilus has 60m WR.

Yes, it is. Basically you're paying for a nice handmade dial with a proprietary movement, case etc. Which is ok if that's what you want.

Nice dial, awful hands. Enjoy buying what you actually want for a change OP.

  29. #29
The model 1 costs less and has better hands (The comparison to hands looking like those pins that come with an iphone actually comes from an online review) The standard model 2 watches are even less. I did read somewhere that they can do a custom dial on request which is quite unique. Garrick are another British company that have an enamel dial watch.

I came close to buying a Model One a couple of years ago; they’re good looking and nicely original watches. It will be interesting to see where they go next, particularly in terms of the cases and handsets.

This is the only watch source I frequent; my comment was based on my instant first thought the first time I ever saw this watch, which was when opening this thread... which shows I’m not the only one to think it.

Those hands are just awful; really, really awful.

  35. #35
I think the dial looks amazing, the hands are an acquired taste, but they are sufficiently different to be interesting. My problem is with the case. The shape overall is nice enough, but the edges are just too soft everywhere. It looks as if they’ve deburred it in a tumbler and lost any definition.

I like the color and design, interesting markers. Dont know why, but I have a feeling that after few weeks I would get bored with it...(rainy days influence my mood)

See? Apart from the hands, the case, the water resistance rating and the overall design we all agree it's an OK-ish watch right? Mine is still available on SC!

Bit of a hipster vibe, maybe the industrial hands are there to tone down any accusation of bling?

I think the effort put in to produce the dials alone deserves a round of applause.

    Brilliant - GLWTS!

Might be worth having a look at the youtube videos of these watches. I saw a few of them and the hands look a lot better on the videos. It probably needs to be considered that you are paying for a pretty unique hand made dial something you dont see to often, Swiss movement that has some regulation and the ability to customise it a little should you wish.

Agreed but a GBP1800 watch should be able to withstand a bit more then 5atm.

    Patek?

Other than their dive watch which goes to a whopping 6atm.
