    How Heavy - Lockdown Boredom

Trying to find things to do whilst at home actively avoiding the jobs Mrs B4W wants doing I entertained myself by weighing my current crop of watches.

Nothing scientific and where bracelets are on watches they are adjusted to my 7.25ish wrists, with the exception of the Tudor GMT as its unworn and the bracelet is full and not been sized.

    Ready........................

    Tudor P01 - 153g

    Tudor GMT - 186g

    JLC Reverso - 85g

    Damasko DC67 Si - 131g

    Omega X-33 Gen II - 106g

    Rolex 16610 Sub Date - 127g

    Record Watch Co - 35g

    Omega Beta 21 Electroquartz - 119g

    Omega Seamaster 2531 - 158g

    Zenith Rainbow Flyback - 143g

    Bulova Accutron Spaceview - 54g

    Seiko Bellmatic - 68g

    Seiko Weekdater - 50g

    Casio Digital - 44g

A famous Egyptian clone (don’t shoot me for this, its just a bit of fun) 283g

So, what can be learnt from this? Well bugger all really.

    Enjoy!
    Cheers,

    Ben

You need a 250g watch like a planet ocean chrono or I presume some kind of sea dweller.

Now if you really have time to kill, it would be more scientific to remove bracelets and straps before weighing, as a chunky steel bracelet can weigh a lot.
Then you can do some sort of comparison of the ratio of watch head to total weight so that you can work out......well, not a lot!

I saw on a TV program about pawnbroking that one of the checks they do is weigh the watch. Does anyone know if there’s a source for the weights and does it include the number of links ?

    Pure idle curiosity..

I've always used 200g as an upper limit for me and anything heavier feels like having half a house brick strapped to my wrist.

I am very disappointed to see that Cameron coming in at 211g - either remove this watch from my hypothetical wants list, or increase my tolerance level to 225g.

See, a worthwhile exercise after all

Take a few links out and wear it on the max glide lock setting. Easy fix. It does wear its weight well, I think it might be down to the bigger surface area and titanium caseback.

I think my James Cameron weighs around half a pound, that'd be 227g.

Atleast the watch weights remained constant unless links were added/ removed or bracelets/straps changed, those who didn’t watch their weight during the lockdown however....

No photos but a Jaeger le Coultre ultra thin date weighs 59gm, an IWC Mark 18 on bracelet 155gm , IWC Mark 18 Miramar 60gm and a Patek aquanaut 79gm.

RG version of a Reverso in the Grande case, with strap and deployant weighs 131g.

No picture sitting on scales as I didn’t weigh it this afternoon. For some reason I have a note with the weight of all my main watches that I did a few years ago.

On the wall of my loo, I have a framed original print ad (in French) for a GMT Master - 'If you were flying Concorde tomorrow, you would wear a Rolex'. It clearly states 'In the cockpit of a PanAm Concorde there will be an essential item on the pilot's arm. It weighs 85 grammes.' I guess that means head only.

...which implies that the bracelet is considered inessential!

I’m actually surprised by how much I’m loving this thread!

Surprised about the Sub actually! Would be curious to know the weight of the Sea Dweller and Deep Sea now for comparison purposes!!

    Nice one OP

I’d be curious to know actually about the Head only as they are quite that much bigger right?

I think the heaviest watches I have are the two steel 45mm Helson Shark Divers which, sized for a 7.5 inch wrist each come in at 294g 296g

The Pam 341 is Ti, the fake is a steel case which is where the extra weight comes from I would imagine.

    Seiko Monster, 173g

    Tudor Black Bay, 171g.

    Panerai Radiomir PAM00346, 100g. Titanium.

    Zenith Type 20, 114g.

    Mondaine Simply Elegant, 88g.

    CWC G10, 48g.

    Timefactors PRS22 Speedbird, 90g.

    Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000, 155g.

A couple of thoughts: I'd have put money on the Black Bay being heavier than the Seiko Monster, I suppose a portion of the difference is in the solid bezel of the Monster. I can't believe the massive bronze Zenith is only 14g heavier than the titanium (but also admittedly large) Radiomir.

Prompted by this thread I thought I would see which of mine is the heaviest. (Of the chunky watches I own)

    (Not so) lightweight titanium

These two have quite a difference in weight being the same case size and same bracelet. One is quartz and the other a 7750 powered chrono.

Lastly the difference between these three was a surprise

This threads really interesting, and there have been loads of really cool collections on display! Cheers.

I'd weigh some stuff but I don't think I have anything especially interesting which hasn't already been weighed by others.

Thanks, Ben. The collection has grown quite a bit since they were taken, but I've not had an opportunity to put them on the scales.
