RIP Michael Londsdale (Sir Hugo Drax in Moonraker)

Lonsdale passed away at the age of 89. A Bond needs a villain.

Lonsdale acted in Day of the Jackal and in The Name of the Rose as well.

    He nailed the Jackal.

Great actor, and a good innings. RIP

He was also excellent in Munich despite only having a short scene

I used to love when Drax clicked his fingers and the dogs (rottweilers?) all stood on each others shoulders in formation.

That was Charles Dance in Last Action Hero!

Drax’s dogs waited for his click before eating the steak he threw down.

A great actor. My best memories of him are as Deputy Commissioner Claude Lebel in The Day of The Jackal and as Anton Grigoriev in Smiley's People. Brilliant in both. The scene in the Jackal where he is told that the minister wanted daily updates into his investigation, and his nervous "Oh God" reply, together with his body language, were just brilliant. The Bond film was rubbish. :)

Your absolutely right ! Excellent you recollected more accurately than me .

I remembered Moonraker was tongue in cheek but now you remind me it certainly wasn't that slapstick .

His short but mesmerising piece explaining the origins of Ronin in the film was excellent. In fact most of Ronin is excellent, especially De Niro attmpting to cover up his sheer terror in the (excellent) car chase.
    RIP
