    Audi Q7 6.0tdi V12....

    Hi

Anyone ever owned one of these ?

I'd be interested to hear their experience....reliable ? Service costs ?

Probably best if the ceramic brakes had recently been done too !

I watched James Martins reviuew of this monster a few weeks ago out of curiosity

The running costs would be truly frightening. These are heavy and complex machines which sold in limted numbers, they would eat through tyres/brakes/diesel. I don't know how many bespoke parts Audi used but I would expect some of the driveline components to be unique and therefore outrageously expensive if you're unfortunate to have a failure.

They also had a problem with the chassis twisting, it had that much torque! Absolute beast to drive, def one of those cars you would think ‘ how I am going this fast in something this big’

    Hi

Yes , expected consumables considering size , weight & performance.

Not really bothered re fuel consumption as I drive low miles per annum.

What about an appetite for lunching drivetrain or turbos ?

I'm thinking FASH and sub 70k miles.

It'll look awesome with chrome wheel spinners.

No real reputation for the stuff you mention, but what you term as 'consumables' is eye watering. Discs/pads circa £14k as an example.

A V12 diesel doesn't seem to make sense.

Isn't there a quicker and lighter and cleaner petrol version? Unless you need torque. Lots of it.

    £97k basic new in 2008, when a base M5 V10 was £65k.

Says it all on what’ll happen if anything goes pop!

And would appear only 37 were registered in the UK, unsurprisingly!

I believe the torque was limited (at least on paper) to 1000Nm because that was what the gearbox was rated for!

Whilst 1000Nm is a certainly a HUGE amount of torque in a road going "family" car, today's 4.0l (multi) turbo petrol engines in performance based Audis, MBs and BMWs etc. (say RSQ8, G63 AMG & X5M etc.) all with around 800-900NM are catching up. I believe they are all (considerably) faster than the Q7 6.0 V12 and would probably be more fuel efficient and cheaper to run too.

Whilst the novelty of a V12 is attractive, it's still a diesel, that said, an Audi Exclusive interior is a thing of beauty.

At that vintage, I’d presume you’d be using an independent garage for servicing and not Audi.

I’m bored so priced up basic servicing parts as follows:

    Mann oil filter £9.59
    Bosch Air Filter £14
20 litres Quantum Longlife Oil £67

The amount of oil might be overkill but parts would come to less than £100 which is quite reasonable.

Here in Germany these (along with touareg w12) are supercheap.
Service and upkeep are nightmare. Torque is out of this world (tested one, i could compare it to Cayenne Turbo with even more torque)

My friend's dad bought one new, he'd only keep them for a few months and get move on. Just for reference, other cars in his stable included a DB5....

He’s a rich bugger (and maybe you need to be to afford to run one)?

They always look like fancy Transits to me, without the practicality.

That the type of person who'd buy a V12 Q7 probably was probably well versed in paying for expensive running costs?

Actually, I'm not sure a V12 Q7 and a DB5 buyer are the same necessarily.

Buying a DB5 is like buying a stately home. Needs expensive upkeep but holds its value well and may even work as an investment.

Buying a V12 diesel Q7 is like spending a month in Vegas. You're almost certainly going to lose money.

As a complete non car person, I think that’s a great quote!
