    Odd sounding question

My query is so odd that I don’t really know how to word it for a title description but here goes.
Do you own the air above your land, obviously only to a certain height.
I have a garage at the rear of my garden that I want to change to a garden room some time next year. The garage currently has a flat roof which I would like to change to a pitched roof so that I can fit a mezzanine to utilise the loft space. I also want to extend the roof off the back of the garage to incorporate a covered decking area for a hot tube.
The reason for my question is that there is a BT line crossing my garden to go to the third house in my street and if I change the roof on my garage and extend it, this phone line is in the way and would need to be redirected.
Can BT refuse? If I can make them redirect it, who carries the cost?
There is a vast array of professions on here and a lot of people with far more knowledge than me so hoping someone will know.
I’ve included a photo from Google earth to help show what I mean. The cream coloured garage is mine.
    Cheers.

I'd have thought getting planning permission would be a bigger issue than the BT overhead wire.

I'd crop the photo so the exact location of your house isn't shown.

BT were prepared to instal a whole new telegraph pole right in front of our gate to accommodate one wire that was apparently hanging too low over an entrance to lock up garages.

I have no idea where the request came from and who was paying but it was ridiculous. We stopped them while they were digging the hole. It was our wire and they ended up moving it further up our outside wall.

We don’t even use BT lines.

A fair number of the images of very expensive watches on here have the GPS coordinates embedded in them.

In all honesty I’ve got nothing worth someone making the pilgrimage for but thank you for the thought anyway.

I’m not up on these things but do you know of any reason why planning permission might be an issue?

Ooft. I just assumed the hosting sites cleared that data...

Height of the proposed structure may be a problem.

If you look on the left hand side of the photo there is a garage in the background that has a pitched roof. I’m number one in the street and the garage with the pitched roof is only 5 doors up, so I’m hoping that will help me.

And the idiots that make an insurance claim on their stolen watch and send the insurers a photo of them wearing it with the exif data showing it was taken after they reported the watch nicked

Yep - in iOS, Android, camera settings, etc. Depends on what you are using to produce the image. Some Apps do strip it out but hosting sites like Flickr usually don't. Sometimes members leave obvious links to their hosting sites that provide access to other images with embedded information even when they've sanitised the one posted.

I find it simpler to remove data on any photos I'm posting here (using Meta Remove on iOS).

Easiest way possible is just screenshot the photo and upload the screenshot.

We had something similar at our last house. There was a BT line that went across part of our garden and over a ground floor section. We wanted to extend above the ground floor section, contacted them and they came and moved it.

If you use android. Open the camera click settings and turn off Location Tagging.
Although on some android devices opening the camera you might not see a settings button so you'll probably have to swipe up or whatever to bring settings up.

If you use IOs go to settings/ Privacy/ Location Services. Look for the camera and sort it from their.

You may not now, but once you have that hot tube in place, we'll all be turning up with our towels

Inviting someone over for a hot tube sounds like it might break social distancing rules.

I won’t even be starting the project until at least a year. With a bit of of luck all this will be behind us by then.

Nope. Just took a while as I didn’t know who to call. In the end I called Customer Services and went from there.

Although interestingly enough, here in Wales we can still have gatherings of up to 30 people outdoors.

Planning/Building Control would have an interest in your proposals.

    Didn't know that.

I'll be headed over to Brecon at some point soon, hopefully. A bit of fresh air. Not aiming to socialise though.

I would be running it by them before I started a thing. I’ve got some pretty nosey neighbours. I wouldn’t want to give them an excuse.
