Tbh nothing against him, I think he would be perfect for it (considering one of the candidates is R. Pattinson).
I had a problem with Craig until Casino Royale, after that he easily became my second favorite Bond of all times.
Rough around the edges but refined when he needs to be (compared to Brosnan).
Really looking forward to it - if it becomes reality. Just look at him in Taboo or Legend (2015), not to mention the Dark Knight rises. He has Method actor qualities and that shows

I hadn't thought of this, but a very good shout!Dan Stevens is great, not really Bond for me personally - but if you think he lacks authority, go watch his turn in The Guest and think again...Charlie Hunnam!? I loved Sons of Anarchy (for first 3 or 4 seasons at least) but he is not of the same class as Hardy or indeed many of the other names on this list.
I would prefer a return to a Bond who looks more 'normal' rather than some muscular brute. I would've loved someone like Riz Ahmed or Cillian Murphy, who have both shown in other roles that suave exterior - but with barely controlled rage and violence lurking below.
Hardy will be fine, but suggests to me they will continue to follow the Craig 'formula' which was perfect at time of Casino Royale but is now fairly stale.

What happened to James Norton (McMafia, Happy Valley etc)? I thought he was the bookie's favourite a while ago?
I always saw Bond as a fiercely intelligent and sophisticated character, who could go from suave to ultra-violent in the blink of a camera shutter and who possessed a troubled aura, suggesting deep trauma suffered in the line of duty. Craig didn’t appear to have that but I was basing my view on his performance in Layer Cake. I was pleasantly surprised when I watched his first Bond film and now put him second to Connery as my favourite Bond. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by how Tom Hardy has portrayed characters such as Alfie Solomon and the Kray twins. I can see the leap from Reggie Kray to Bond, as long as any hint of mockney is ironed out.
I think he’s a great choice personally. He’s got that slightly grizzled around the edges look that I think suits the character from the books.
Looking forward to getting it confirmed. Already wondering what will be his first choice of watch!
I think tom hardy is brilliant, his role in "Bronson" was epic, great in peaky blinders and one of my favourite film ever Warrior, buy no "00".
Bet EON have not even started the search for their next Bond. Usual press bollocks.
Next Bond film prob 3-4 years away so he will be far too old by then
Christ. And I didn’t think it could get any worse after The Blond Scouser.
“Stop getting Bond wrong!”
He would be amazing and young enough to be able to do a lot of films before needing replacing. Fingers crossed its true!

Skyfall is the most successful Bond film ever (adjusted for inflation according to www.007james.com). With 3 of Craig's Bond films being in the top 10 they can't be getting it that wrong.
Hardy will do well as Bond, he's known in the US and will attract a big audience.
Hardy would prob have to be the oldest starting Bond at over 45 by the time Bond 26 comes out. Cant see it happening
Guess the press will be back to Elba next week!
They really can't do it. Bond has to have the appearance of someone who has been around the block. If you're looking at the original material then he has to be old enough to have made the Naval rank of Commander, and subsequently retired from the position (or been head-hunted by MI6).
Hiring a fresh-faced youngster the franchise can milk 20 years out of sounds like a great idea on paper but I don't think a young actor would be accepted into the role - you need someone in their 40's I would say, hence the unfortunate turnover of Bonds.
Daniel Craig is the longest serving James Bond, 2006-2020 (38 years old to 52 years old), so I would guess they'll be on the lookout for someone about 40 to serve the next decade.
For what it's worth Daniel Craig is my favourite Bond, but whether that's down to the acting or the material is up for debate. I hated the Brosnan era, I think Tomorrow Never Dies is the only movie I've been back and re-watched, but mainly because the action, gadgets and characters had become laughably cartoonish.
Tom Hardy wouldn't be the worst choice, the way things are going with Woke Culture I'll just be pleased it's not Sandy Toksvig
I like Hardy as an actor, but for me James Bond isn't covered head to toe in tattoos. I'm sure they could cover them all up with a ton of makeup but even so ...
Cavill ticks all the boxes, if you want to be true to the Fleming aesthetic. Right age at 37 as well.
He (Cavill) certainly looks the part but his acting is more wooden than the Trojan Horse
The question is do we (or more importantly the people putting up the money) want someone like the Fleming character or a modern version that might have Fleming cursing if he were alive?

I'm more interested to see if Omega keep their partnership/sponsorship with Bond, or if Hardys preferred choice, Bremont become the new watch brand of the Bond films.
Personally, Cavill is spot on looks wise for Bond - very much how I pictured him in my mind and not dissimilar to Connery and Lazenby in that sense.
Whether he can act or not is another matter but it never did Roger Moore any harm in the role. ;-)
I wouldn't mind an older, more erudite, and less brutal Bond.
Less Bourne.
More Basil Rathbone (who actually served in Intelligence and had fencing skills. Tad late for him though).
This is whom Fleming has in mind when writing the Bond novels.
If you’re looking for an authentic Bond this is your fella.
For me, Bond is more about personality than looks.
I'd like to see someone like Richard Ayoade audition. Acrid humour, erudite and can deliver razor sharp put-downs. Sure he could pick up some CQC skills.
Luke Roberts who played Ser Arthur Deyne in Game of Thrones:
Luke Evans might have been another option too
(Nicholas Hoult looks 18 in that pic - way too young)
I've found this video of his screen test

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
^Underneath is a serious actor.
I like the way he showed glimpses of this in his uncomfortable interview with KGM.
I think self-deprecating humour is something that makes actors a little more believable and less like super-heroes. Craig had a little - I liked his cameo in Star Wars. Connery had a bit more. Moore had tons of it, as did Niven.
Returning to Caville, he already nailed it in The Man From Uncle reboot. This had everything and made Spectre look bloated, tired and humourless. I’m still delighted at the period and context correct watch too.

Just watch it if you haven’t. You can thank me later.

Caville’s the only one who can save that sorry franchise.
Tell us a joke we know!
He can play 'hard' too.

Fassbender is another that would be perfect, and better than Hardy, but has missed the boat due to age (43). For me he is what Bond should be above everything: the svelte grey man who uses his intellect rather than his muscles to do the job.
I really cannot think of anyone sub-35 to fill the part, not a Brit anyway.
