Hi all,
I’m looking at picking up a preowned Rolex Submariner Date 16610 as a full set with ‘V’ serial number and warranty card dated 2010.
It hasn’t had a Rolex service but an independent one.
Dealer wants £8k and has sent the below pics.
Appreciate any advice.

Does it have an aftermarket glass?
Good eyes, as I can’t see it
Good price for that year - WF will set your back 9.6k!! Mine is a 2009 got for 8.9k few years ago. Keep us posted!

Not trying to sow any doubts but the lazer etched crown should be nigh on invisible. It's tiny and often very hard to see unless the light is shining from the 12 o'clock position and at a low angle.
The fact that this one is so obvious, would make me cautious.

Laser etched crown CAN be photographed to macro pictures. Can't see it with naked eye though.
Is there actually any way to telling a high-end replica from a real one these days?? Externally anyway? I read that even experts can struggle to tell real from fake without examining the movement.
Be interested to see what Haywood or Verv think. Looks good at first glance to me but would ask their opinion tbh.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
If you don't know your way round Rolex, stick to buying new from an AD or from retailers you trust (like HM).
The laser etching cannot be seen by the naked eye. So that should be a worry. When you get the watch in your hand shine the led light from your phone at an angle at the 6 position. Then it should jump at you. Switch light off and it should disappear. Remember Led light works best. Once you know the position check the detail on etching. It should be very thin and fine.
I tried to take a photo of mine with my iPhone and it’s not a problem too see the engraving and I didn’t need to try hard.
And of course you can see the laser engraving with your naked eye.
I'd much rather have the Seadweller on SC.
Thanks for all the advice so far.
I’ve bought Rolexes in the past so know what to look out for but it’s always good to get a second opinion before jumping in.
The condition looks good to me, especially the lugs and it doesn’t seem to have had a degrading polish - a light one at worst which is commensurate with age.
I hadn’t considered whether this had an aftermarket crystal but the etched Rolex symbol seems to suggest it hasn’t. Also, the reflective cyclops is quite typical in my experience unless there is an anti-reflective coating applied.
I have been looking at one of these for a while and was hoping prices may come down but they just seem to be going up and up, especially over the last 6 months. So I think it’s time for me to finally jump in and buy one before they increase any further.
Two other obvious questions would be, who's the dealer and who serviced it?
If the independent Jeweller does not use genuine Rolex parts, the worse case scenario is to run it for a few years and then put it into your local AD or Rolex themselves for a service.
If you are a bit cautious like me, haggle a bit if you can and put it into Rolex immediately for a service.
I wouldn't consider it as serviced and if they're not accredited I wouldn't be happy with them opening it.
Is there any concern over the crystal here or does it seem quite standard?
It is fairly common for a crystal to be replaced by Rolex for something simple such as a chip etc as it is claimed that it will compromise the water proofing. Your crystal could be non standard or standard and it would be sensible to have it checked by Rolex before jumping into water etc.
It's bloody horrible when a watch is serviced by a Jeweller who does not have access to genuine Rolex parts. The watch is probably ok but there is always that nagging doubt.
I think it's good otherwise but reserve judgement on the glass.
There are now "aftermarket" glasses with lasered coronets that are close to convincing.

I've received the following videos to show the condition a little clearer:

Again I appreciate any comments anyone has.
Thanks

Thanks all for the advice.
I am going to go for it - I have put off buying one of these for too long and the more I wait, the more expensive they become...
This seems to be as good as I am going to get at this price point, without going into NOS territory and paying a (further) inflated price.
The case looks a bit too polished for me
It's lost its sharpness
Sorry to go against the grain but given this is a watch you've been thinking about for a long time, if I were you, I'd keep looking
It has had a bit of a polish but doesn't look to me like the sharpness has been affected. The other pictures/videos sent show this a bit clearer.
Anyway, I'm biased as I have now bought it!
Let's see how it looks when it arrives later this week...
Thanks everyone for the advice
I for one think you have made the right decision. The watch looks ok and a dodgy crystal is no big deal.
So relax, keep it and enjoy it.
There doesn’t seem to be a very clear image of the crown square on and in the video this passes very quickly.
Are the three dots below the crown same size ( ie. for a SS /Bimetallic watch) is the definition on the crown clean and sharp. It certainly looks good, I juts noticed I could see the crown definition and triple lock indicators clearly.

Why are you pursuing this? My original post said...................
And both have now commented, and given their opinion, in their usual friendly way that we are accustomed to. Believe me if either had any problem with it they wouldn't be backward about telling us!
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
