    Secursus-Anyone used them ?

    Looking to post a watch within the UK above normal RMSD limits.

    Secursus has been mentioned to me and from their website it looks quite straightforward. Post using RMSD get the tracking number and insure before the end of the day ?

    Anyone had any experiences of using them or other suggestions ?

    I used them for the last watch i sold on here
    Very straightforward and would use again
    Takes away that bit of uncertainty if you post high value items
    But proof of the pudding will be when you make a claim

    Same here. Shipped with UPS, insured with Secursis to The Netherlands. Cover for £4.6k cost me about £35 if I recall correctly (June 2020).

    Used them this week - flawless service and very clear instructions over packing. Sent a watch at over £5k which cost around £35 to insure.

    I used RMSD and paid for my RMSD label online for drop off only at the post office. Advantage of that was I didn't have to say what was in the parcel. Secursus are very clear about that - do NOT give away what is inside in any way. Photograph it as you pack it. Make sure the recipient knows what to do if it looks damaged in any way. Not following these rules could make a claim tricky.

    Yup - send by RMSD. Insure on the secursus by midnight that night. Done - full cover for loss (so long as you have a photo trail, do NOT declare contents or value on the parcel).

    Sorry John, just to be clear, you need to sign up to Secursus (effectively create an account with them) in order to book the parcel in?

    You sign up for an account with Secursus - you can do that now. Then, as you send each package (by whatever courier you choose off their list), you just log into your Secursus account and buy the insurance for that package. You need the RMSD tracking ID when buying the insurance - so for me, I bought the RMSD at home on the laptop and then insured straight away. I then dropped the box off the following morning to the post office. Quick scan.. away it went, no money handed over.

    Oh... and I know many will mention "Infosure" or some fella called jerome?.. Well I tried to email him and his company many times last year to open an account and get cover. I had ZERO response so wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Imagine losing a valuable watch... in a panic and not even being able to raise the insurer. Nightmare.

    2 points to highlight.

    1. Use rigid packaging. Their T&C's page states no jiffy bags or equivalent.

    2. Hermes is the 1 exception.... With a €1k cap on insurance.

    I’ve used them a few times too now. Very easy. As others said, key is to use new rigid packaging on the outside with a bubble wrap or similar layer around the watch box inside. Take lots of pictures of the package and be vague with the carrier about the contents...

    Whether they are actually any good will only be known if a claim is made.

    Excellent stuff, looks like the days of putting an expensive watch in the post and taking the gamble are coming to an end. Good timing as well as I might be listing a couple of expensive watches when they return from being serviced.

    So Seadweller posted RMSD this lunchtime. Insurance sorted with Secursus and was really straight forward to organise.

    About to use them as well for a high value watch to Denmark. Seems straightforward to use so hopefully no issues... but like you all have said, still yet to see how they handle a claim.

    How good they are depends on what they do if you need to claim although the web interface is also important as it needs to be easy to set up.
    If the goods arrive safely and on time then that is down to the carrier and nothing to do with the insurer.

    A friend owns a jewellers and they have an all cover policy for anything up to £25k but they have to use RMSD presumably because the insurer knows that they are very reliable.

    In 10 years using RMSD he has never had to make a claim on anything sent within the UK

    Secursus allows an individual to get the same sort of cover but the choice of carrier is still very important

    Just bumping this as have a quick question about using RMSD with Secursus for posting abroad. I know you put £0 for value of your item when booking through RMSD but it then again asks for a value of the item for customs use. Do I put £0 again for this?

    Just bumping this. I’ve tried to do a search on watch insurance and not got a lot come up - can’t be doing it right. Anyway I’m tentatively considering selling a couple of my watches and want to make sure they are insured properly if I sell them. Secursus seems to be a good option, but I wonder if anyone recommends any other companies so I can compare them? Value wise I’m unsure as haven’t decided what, if any, I’m selling but between 10k and 20k. Cheers.

    You need a reference. It is US based but their online chat for questions is good during US hours. PM me if you want further answers. I’ve had an account with them for a few years and all works very well - you can insure shipment with all major shippers including RM and DHL, UPS etc and are competitive. Specialist insurance for shipping of valuable items including watches.

    cost: 0.25% of shipment value

    i totally agree with Wallasey - splitting your collection would be just painful to see

    My dilemma Ken is though I’ve sold watches in the past that I wish I hadn’t, a couple value wise, but a couple sentimental wise, I knew at the time it was the right thing to do. Right now I’ve got more value in watches that I told myself I ever would and I’d like to own a gold watch. Not going to put anymore money in watches so something needs to go. That said if I went down the Rolex route, apparently gold watches are getting harder to buy - I’m sure not that long ago a discount was possible!

    I used them this week with DHL (a return of one of the other half’s handbags - which is worth more than any watch I own!). As above, all quite straightforward - I’ve not had to claim from them (yet) though. I’ve taken loads of photos showing the item itself, then putting it into the dust bag, then the official box, then wrapping, then a larger cardboard box as their t & cs require photos.

    Point of the post though - DHL’s home collection service is great. Took thirty seconds between them arriving and the whole thing being done. I was expecting all sorts of forms or photos or signing those new electric hand held things, but none of that. Booked a slot online nice and easily as well. With lockdown this is the first time I’ve used that sort of service but I’d use it again, very convenient.

    I think given the watches you have and most are on the hot watch list, a trade with a dealer for the gold watch is probably the more sensible route than several private sales. I don't really think insured postage is an issue for you, anyone buying at those prices should be willing (lockdown conditions permitting) to travel a bit to collect.

    I would look for whatever gold watch it is and then consider what do I need to part with here in order to do a trade. Watchfinder is a very good place to start.

    I've used Secursus and followed their 'sending a parcel' instructions but not had to make a claim, which is really the acid test for online insurance. I seem to recall reading comments on here recently from someone about a friend who was making a claim with Secursus or Infosure and it was proving to be a hassle (I might have remembered that wrong but maybe worth a search to check and see if there was an update).

    I can relate to not wanting to increase the total invested in watches but recall your stunning collection included a couple of newly acquired 'desirable' Rolex so it's a shame if they mean you have to move on older watches you really like.

    That makes sense. My first decision is to decide what I actually want. Well I know what I want - one of two full gold AP's that I tried on a year ago but won't be spending that sort of money! I find the Day Date is growing on me more and more. It's not a watch I'd ever have considered before. Rose gold Daytona on bracelet. Depends whether I could get from an AD, more importantly whether I could try them on.

    Thanks. I have 3 watches that I wouldn't sell full stop, which are my Daytona, Pepsi and Skydweller, so it makes it slightly easier. I also wouldn't sell my AP unless getting another AP. I also have a sub that I've not included so that may go. The SD is another option and I've even considered the VC, but that's me being silly I think. Chances are I'll do nothing at all. If there's a 10% or more price rise, that will end it anyway.

    Gold models are getting harder to come by as they are selling as fast as SS which I found a bit surprising but that is ten works we live in. I am awaiting for a piece now. I have used parcel pro and Secursus and touch wood never had to make a claim.

    Used them before Christmas 5k watch up to Glasgow. Used RMSD £14 to post then Secursus £24 will definitely use again, as said piece of mind

    So ... if I want to ship a watch value e.g £2500 via RMSD and I take out SECURSUS cover for same amount, I need only use RMSD for lower tier £500 value ... because no claim would be made to Royal Mail in event of loss ... because that would be 'double indemnity' . In effect, I'm only using RMSD to ensure next day delivery but with no compensation insurance via Royal Mail ... all compensation in event of loss is covered and paid by Secursus.

    Yes Dunk, you only use RMSD as a means of delivery, the full insurance is covered by Secursus.

    For £2,500 as per your example you wouldn't use Secursus, just RMSD with enhanced insurance up to £2,500. Anything over that then it is full insurance cover with Secursus.

    I have used them twice this year, once to send a Daytona and the other to send a top end GS. No issues at all, very easy to use.

    Understood Ken but ... if I print a RMSD label at home or if the PO prints same, it shows the actual postage value ... which is an immediate giveaway to a potential thief that contents are high value ... e.g., £2500 ... hence prefer to use RMSD £regular limit and pay Secursus for cover up to required compensation value.

    Your receipt from the Post Office with the tracking number on it would show the level of insurance, but those white postage labels that the PO put on the parcel do not - so no one seeing the parcel would know.

    I don't actually see how anyone can recommend an insurance company unless they have had to make a claim and it's gone well...otherwise aren't you just recommending a company based on how easy it has been to take your cash?!

    I only say this because I remember a US based insurer a number of years ago that was being recommended but subsequently people found they had to go to court against the insurer to progress a claim.

    While this is true it is still delivery by RMSD which is incredibly reliable.
    A jeweller friend reports no instance of lost damaged or stolen goods with RMSD in the last 20 years.
    Jewellers use their own version of Secursus but still use RMSD.

    If no one can give any experience of actually making a claim with Secursus this is probably because they haven't had to due to RMSD reliability.

    I agree....that's positively reflecting on RMSD rather than the insurer.

    That is the nub of the argument I think.
    The problem is that apart from Secursus I don't know of any way to insure an item above £2500.00

    No one can do F2F at the moment so what is the alternative?

    Trustpilot does appear to provide evidence that UK customers have made successful claims - that gives me more confidence.

    You need a reference. It is US based but their online chat for questions is good during US hours. PM me if you want further answers. I’ve had an account with them for a few years and all works very well - you can insure shipment with all major shippers including RM and DHL, UPS etc and are competitive. Specialist insurance for shipping of valuable items including watches.

    The bottom line is nobody knows! All that's happened so far is people have given them money, so impossible to judge.

    It's a nice business when you think about it. They charge about 1% of value. How many packages go missing in transit? I don't know but it's a LOT less than 1%. Maybe one in 500-1,000...maybe less. Given that there's no evidence a payout would be forthcoming, I prefer to keep the premium and be my own insurer. Aside from your car (which is a legal requirement) your house (which is sensible) and possibly medical (which can save a lot of hassle) most other insurance isn't worth having and we'd all be better off over a lifetime by not buying it. If it was otherwise, it wouldn't be a business.

    I signed up for Secursus a while ago but haven't used it yet.

    Logged in yesterday to check over my account as I have a shipment to insure, and all the values and prices are in dollars - US, I suppose.

    Looking at the website without logging in, prices etc. are stated in GBP, but as soon as I'm logged in, it's all preceded by a '$'.

    I've double-checked everything to make sure I didn't somehow choose the wrong currency or set my location to the US or something. There's no currency setting and this issue isn't covered in the FAQs.

    Is this the same for everyone?

    Answering my own question, it looks like this is peculiar to my account as I've just set up a new one and everything is stated in GBP when I'm logged in to it.

    Scursus have yet to reply to the email I sent them yesterday querying this.
