I’ve faded my Pepsi GMT insert

I really like these Pagani GMTs. I hate the word ‘beater’ but that’s exactly what these can be at sub £100. The thing that I don’t like is how bright the inserts are so I thought I’d do something about that.

Armed with some rubber gloves, a small amount of household bleach and some cotton buds, I set about molesting the thing. A bit of rubbing with the bleach soaked cotton bud then I covered the insert in a thin layer of bleach before leaving for 20 minutes.

And quite simply, you repeat until you have the effect you want. I did three rounds, washing with warm soapy water then blasting with cold water between each attempt.

I’m not sure how well the photos will represent the change but in real life it’s considerable. Now I have a nice matt, faded insert that no longer screams colour at you.

Looks superb. Keep toying with the idea of doing this to the black bezel insert on my PRS-68.

Thanks all. I'm tempted to go a shade lighter but worried I'll spoil it as I have a very even fade just now.

Well, I went there. I think it looks great. Apologies that the light is awful in this pic.

    Nice one David.

That looks great. I imagine it’s liberating to be able to molest a watch knowing it’s not going to cost you an arm and a leg if it goes slightly wrong!

Thanks Simon. It is, I had no hesitation getting bleach involved!

That looks great. Love that faded bezel look. When I bought my seamaster some years ago the owner gave me an original faded bezel with it...... keep meaning to refit it 🤔

Wow looks like the perfect mix of a modern bezel with vintage aesthetics.

Very cool. Makes the colours look a bit more subtle.

Well done, it’s turned out well. Did you remove the insert to do this?

Thanks, no I didn’t. I left it in and ran the cotton bud around the insert.

It took 54 years of natural fading on this but you have cracked it a bit quicker, well done.
