DIY Watch Club - anyone tried it?

Hi guys - I’m wondering if anyone has tried one of these kits from DIY Watch Club. To any watchmakers, mod fans and experts, I’m sure this is all pretty basic. To me this looks like a fun way to spend a few hours having a go at the simple stuff (and a gateway to learning to mod Seikos). Let me know your thoughts and experiences (if any). Link to their website below. Cheers

There's a useful thread here - My first self build

That's what got me started - & sourcing the parts yourself means you have more choice on what you put together...

    Looks cool, but pretty expensive?

...and their "components only" kits are sold out (I have the tools)

    :(

Is there a "shopping list" somewhere that would help one collect parts of matching sizes (e.g., dial vs movement vs case)?

Even better, a DIY manual that explains all the steps? (I could google this, but you're the "expert" here (def. compared to me!!)

One thing that can catch the novice out is fitting hands. New hands made to fit a given size should press on easily, but in many cases they don’t, they need broaching slightly to fit. A set of fine broaches isn’t something a novice is likely to have, I can’t remember what I paid for mine but they cost a few ££, and all these costs add up.

Thanks very much for this! I’ve always fancied doing a project watch. I’ll read in more detail. All the best.

For that sort of budget I’d probably get a CWV Diver or Eddie’s new Smith’s Navigator. But are you going to travel much? In that case, something with a quickset hour hand is useful, in which case I’d suggest a Revue Thommen Airspeed Titanium Quartz Chronograph.

Perfect. I’ll watch this video. Thanks for posting! I have a feeling one of these kits will be appearing on my birthday as I’ve been muttering about it around the house.

I love the idea. But I've spent too much of recent on watches. If cheaper I would maybe consider it more. For now I'll be brave and try and fix a watch with a dodgy chrono hand. That means taking the stem and movement out. If I screw that all up. Well. Maybe a DIY isn't for me

Update: I have received one of these kits as a gift. I will report back once I’ve completed the assembly.
