On kickstarter at the moment by Rob Fraser of A.F. 0210 is the recreation of the original nylon NATO strap.

Seems like it's going to be 16mm and 1.3mm thick.
Nice strap but at 16mm it's a bit thin for any modern day watches.

Have been looking forward to this and wish him the best of luck. Can understand the original 16mm repro catering for those lucky enough to have correct lug-width vintage watches but let's hope they'll be available in other sizes like the A.F.0210, though suspect that might be a while yet...

I am wavering
I really like the idea, and I have an AF0210 from the same supplier (I just noticed he has used one of my photos on the website).
But 16mm is a tough ask.
18mm might still be niche.
But I admire his determination to get it "right".
It is funded now, he's easily reached the target, so I might just hold off and get another couple of AF0210s instead, which are available in 18mm and 20mm

16mm too narrow for either of my watches. 20mm minimum required. Speaking of which I bought a nato from barkandjack dot com - the "new nato 2"
Extremely comfortable but not every day nato cheap at £24, but I think worth the money. I don't like the 2nd layer under the watch so snip snip.

Each to their own and all that but can never understand this. Why spend all that and then chuck half of it away? You could have done the same with a strap costing a fiver!

Get thyself over to cheapestnatostraps.com (no connection) where you'll find lots of single pass straps, including RAF, perlon etc...

After doing the whole kickstarter process I await delivery of my strap (due November) with the delivery date notification a survey on whether 18mm /20mm would be of interest in the future, so fingers crossed the larger sizes could be available soon.

Hmm. Stitched rather than welded, and this: "Solid buckle pin" / "a solid one-piece buckle pin". Isn't the pin always solid and one-piece? Better to have a one-piece buckle, ie no springbar. (Surely the whole point of NATOs and the like is that there's no springbar to fail?)

Haha. You have a point there. With the huge variations of nato type straps out there, it does seem a bit ridiculous.
