Back in the 1970s (or so) evil cartoonist Gahan Wilson contributed a meat grinder cartoon to Playboy Magazine that slayed me. It doesn't appear to be available on the internet for some reason.

Essentially, two Scotland Yard inspectors are standing in a kitchen with their notebooks at hand. There is a large meat grinder sitting on the edge of the kitchen counter with a bloody mass of ground 'meat' hanging out of the grinder's spout and onto a pile on the floor. Out of the top of the grinder is a man's upper arm with elbow bent so the hand can grip the grinder's rotating handle. The one inspector says to the other: "That's the most determined case of suicide I've ever seen."

This is the closest visual I could find, which isn't that close, unfortunately.

Of all the days I’ve spent down on beaches I can honestly say hand on heart I’ve ever noticed or stared at any men with or without tattoos. There are far better thing to to see, like women with or without tattoos!

HAha, one that stuck with me is the children being fed into the meat grinder in the Another Brick in the Wall video.

some nice work posted here - all mine were done over 30 years ago so look rough compared to most modern day artists (chinese style) , i dont regret them at all though if i had a 'blank' canvas to start with now i would probably get a lot of alex greys art work done as tattoos.
when i was younger i got the whole 'what will they look like when you get older' -the truth is when you get older most people have other health concern that superseed worrying what a few old tattoos look like.

Wow! How timely. I've just returned from finally getting the piece I'd always wanted done. I found the guy at a parlour in Tring after searching for so long for someone that specialised in big cats realism so this was done yesterday.

This was prompted by my missus who, out of nowhere suddenly announced she wanted her first tattoo. Two-thirds of which was completed a month ago and the rest (a kingfisher coming out of water with a fish in its mouth) will be added above in late October

I have a morbid fear of needles (blood samples are not fun) so not a hope in hell of a tattoo, but no problem with others getting one-or more- but what is trend of mono chrome tattoos, SiL has a large dragoon done in many many colours and looks -to me-so much better.

    When was it done?

From my experience realistic/colourful tattoos need more care or they’ll just fade quite badly in the long run. Solid, dark tattoos will stay forever wether you care about it or not (if done properly of course).

Thank you but, to be fair, it's not my first. I started with the obligatory Chelsea lion on the other arm. Paula however.....

Thank you. We're both very pleased. I'll post a picture of Paula's once it's complete.

    Time for another tattoo (II)

I'm another with an alarmingly spiralling addiction

Quick count puts me at 14 with no.15 being done next week- most form a patchwork sleeve.

Here are a few pics. I tend to favour neo traditional styles:

Sorry but I just don't get what that is meant to be? It looks very well done and artistic though.

So does anyone have any 'Sailor Jerry' style tattoos? If I ever have one that's the style I think I'd go for. The modern 3d and watercolour look great, but not basic enough for me. Anyone got Swallows?

With all these excellent and in some cases huge tattoos in this thread I feel somewhat embarrassed that I merely have something in Latin on my forearm.

I got my first tattoo in 1996.

Still need to get a few bits finished, but the older you get, the more it hurts, so not sure if I'll bother.

I kind of regret having them now tbh.

But it's always best to regret something you've done than something you haven't.

I've recently been getting pieces by Matty Darienzo - really graphic old school style...

Tend to stick with quite solid black pieces as they look better on my (darker) skin

Quick update, but I've decided to get the other tattoo I've wanted for quite a while - showing the phases of the moon - at the same time (obviously not on the same arm though!). It'll be based on this, albeit that it's shown on a woman's arm... may have to man it up a bit

The two together will mean quite a few hours in the chair, unfortunately.

That moon phase one looks fantastic, a great decision!

An someone never having stepped foot inside a parlour, what's the damage to the wallet for something like this? Assume we are multiples of £100s for the skill it requires.

Oh, thanks! It works out about £100 per hour - I’ve been quoted £200 for that one and £300 for the leaves.

I like the idea of a moonphase tattoo but I can't get the thought out of my mind that this one looks more like a nibbled choc chip cookie than the moon, I think because the phases don't have a defined crescent. I do like the geometric aspect to it though!

Hmmm... I have told my tattooist that I want as much realism to the moons as possible. Can't see cookies myself though.
