Best meal is the casino in Southport always eat in there when we go
Afternoon folks. My best mates 40th on Monday and I've booked the day off work, three of us are (were!) headed to Manchester for a steak at Gaucho and many, many beers.
Unbeknownst to me the lockdown rules for Manchester changed AGAIN last night, so we have lost all of our reservations and been told that a group of three friends will not be accommodated at any City centre pubs or restaurants!
From where we all live on the outskirts of Bolton it's a relatively quick and easy train to either Blackpool or Southport, neither of which (I don't think) have excessive lockdown restrictions.
I need some recommendation on a really good restaurant - not somewhere cheap and tacky - and a choice of pubs. Which is better out of the two, any ideas?
Thank you in advance. I need to book something ASAP!
To clarify, this is a 40th birthday booze up so it's train there in the morning, good meal and some drinks, then train back in the evening.

Kev
Owd Nells (Guys thatched hamlet) at Bilsborough do rooms which although not superb are very good value. The food is superb and the Italian restaurant is excellent
If its Friday or Sunday they do a saver with a 20 quid voucher
Its right at the side of the canal and a superb location to get to Garstang. There's a massive Barton Grange next door and some more pubs local
Its not Blackpool or Southport so you would obviously have to drive unless you get a taxi from Preston
Cheers

Another 👍 for V (Vicents) cafe. Would probably need to be booked in advance though.
Sorted now i think... southport it is. Not thrilled about having all my bookings pulled with a days notice but whatever, boris knows best right.
Thank you all
I think you’ve made the right choice. As someone who lives close to Blackpool I can assure you you would have struggled to find somewhere non-tacky.

Remember to eat before you drink, otherwise you'll end up with kebabs!
Kebabs should be part of the plan! One skewer of lamb and one skewer of kofte with all the salad and lots of chilli sauce. Delicious! Although after a day out drinking you will probably go straight for doner!
We had a meal here last year it was excellent

The last time I was in Blackpool I'd been out on a Friday night and after getting a bit merry had burger and chips from some van for £1.00. I should of known better.
Walking up the sea front the next morning I did truthfully sh*t myself and I don't mean a little.
If you're from Blackpool there's a karaoke bar on one corner and a bar on the opposite corner (can't remember the name) if you check inside the cistern you might find a pair of boxer shorts

I really can't remember but I had a thought it might of been called the Scottish bar? It was about 20 years ago
