Define financial fair play .
Without resorting to , you know, lazy narrative etc .
Is it better to have substantial investment into a football club without being overloaded with debt , or is it preferable to raise money against the future value of the club, plunging it into debt, invoking huge overloaded repayments whilst taking dividends ?
I will define it as living within your means as a business as opposed to outside investment only.
The fact that the clubs tried to circumvent it by overinflated sponsorship deals etc basically showed the types that were in charge.
You can equate it to the Qatari world cup-rotten to the core
OK
So trying to circumvent the process designed to keep certain historical clubs at the top of the tree no matter what is a bad thing ?
Imagine Apple and Google trying to break into the mobile phone market but Nokia want to preserve their market share because they have “history” . How ridiculous is that ?
Mike Ashley has alluded to the closed shop more than once .
Chelsea and City should just be the beginning. It should also include Villa, Everton, Newcastle etc .
I’d love a playing field when everyone has a chance
Umm am old but not that old haha. I was 3 at the time lol.
Either way I honestly don't get why money in football bothers people. It's just part and parcel of the modern game. God knows me and thousands of Geordies would of loved it if the PIF had been given the go ahead.

It doesn’t, it only bothers folk whose team aren’t winning at the minute .
I was a huge supporter of Toon getting the Saudi investment. Why not ? Bring it on .
Again, Leicester, Everton , Villa etc etc . Allow them to spend the investment and bring in players to challenge ..
Plus . Sickie, I’ve been to SJP many times and have yet to see us win there . Missed all the good ones .

Not trying to keep historical clubs where they are but equating your fan base/season ticket holder/sponsorship income with your spending.
As a youngster my favourite English team was Man Utd(1st memory was 79 FA cup final-Arsenal-Man Utd 3-2 final. proper football) but now it's probably Norwich City due to their refusal to get played by the premiership riches.
People are aware of just how wealthy Leicester's owners are, aren't they?
And how do you get a huge fan base ?
Winning stuff .
How do you win stuff ?
Buy good players .
How do you buy good players ?
Making money
How do you make money ?
Having the best team .
How do you get the best team ?
By investment driven by commercial sales worldwide.
Sounds good, how does that happen ?
By having a huge fan base
Notts Forrest
Aston Villa
Ipswich Town
All got there through good coaching/management
The only time I have been interested in the Champions league recently was when Ajax made their run to the semi and blew it against Spurs.
Proper team developed to compete as opposed to being bought
I also understand and agree with some of the points you make but going back to the good old days is never going to happen in football, whether we like it or not. As goat has said the best way to make football as competitive as possible is to allow people to invest in their clubs. FFP prevent the owners of Villa, Everton, Leicester, Newcastle (assuming Ashley would ever inject the levels of cash Abramovic and Mansour have) from challenging for titles but, i bet, given the opportunity they would. The real damaging points from the ESL were the non competitive nature of the league and the lack of communication etc with the other bodies, the managers and players and then the fans. I completely understand United and Arsenal fans for their unhappiness because the owners are treating the club like a cash cow.
City haven't got one signing in the top 20 European transfers yet we are the bad boys. They want to compete at the highest level and to do that requires investing in players that are capable of achieving that. We've made very few mistakes in the transfer market (Mangala springs to mind) but haven't gone all in on big name signings just for the sake of it, e.g. Pogba, Maguire, Alexi Sanchez. We've got strength in depth largely because we have bought well.
The single biggest problem in football is that many of the executive positions at FIFA and UEFA are filled with people either still connected to or having been connected to legacy elite teams who believe their previous history entitles them to protect their elite position and they want a bigger slice of the money pie. People lauded PSG for not entering the ESL but their owner sits on UEFA's executive committee, owns BEIN network which has exclusive broadcast rights with UEFA and is hosting the World Cup next year. Their decision not to take part had nothing to do with footballing values. Take a look at the other EXCO members and you'll see they are from Liverpool, United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.
Question re the CL since the winner this season will be an English side who will automatically qualify for next season will there be a top five in the EPL?
I FEEL LIKE I'M DIAGONALLY PARKED IN A PARALLEL UNIVERSE
Doesn't anyone want to qualify for the CL, they seem to be taking turns at losing, it will be Chelsea next followed by Liverpool later. Everton have been playing with flip flops on for weeks now.
Looking forward to Man City reserves v Chelsea reserves later on
Liverpool mugged Southampton there. Southampton the better team but poor finishing.

Well Chelsea once did me a favour, but, as I steadfastly refused to enjoy anything about our 15/16 season after we beat Liverpool as I was too ‘overwhelmed’ by it all…. It’s about time we returned a favour for someone!
I got tickets for me an my lad for Wemberleeeeee on Saturday (just enough away priority points)…. Free to a good home to anyone who happens to be called Wolf! and is devastatingly handsome
Also got tkts for the Final, albeit in the other end as they were offered first to away season ticket holders. Also I will get tkts for the home league match against you a few days after thanks to overall loyalty points from 19/20 season. Two tough games but looking forward to being back in a ground again.
Mate of mine went to Baku via a very convoluted route. Planes, trains & automobiles plus a bus or two. Took him 6 days to get there and 5 to get back. He did take in a Besiktas home game on the way out if I remember correctly.
I couldn’t justify the “wasted” holidays to the finance director at home, so went to the pub instead
For Moscow 2008, due to the visa issue I had to pick up my ticket in person and I was in Ras shukier egypt so I had to get to Cairo then fly to Manchester, pickup the ticket, then fly to Moscow for the game, fly back to Manchester, then get a train up to Aberdeen, all within 24 hrs. Good result though!!!

We're forever bursting bubbles...
Good result for the mighty Blues, but how that West Ham post effort stayed out is beyond me.
I think that Bowen was in an offside position when the original shot was taken & was never back onside. His 'tap-in' wouldn't have counted.

Jim.
Very disappointing result for the Hammers, need to win all final 3 games now
I’ll let you buy me a pre-match beer to drown my sorrows before the inevitable humping!
Think that’s you done now…. You’ve been fantastic of late and played some great footy
And sod Man Utd fans…. A weakened side v Liverpool on Thursday is now completely inevitable
