I would guess that the idea of quarantine is that you are separated from the rest of humanity for 14 days. Think of it as a prison sentence without any form of remission.
Afternoon TZ,
Hypothetical question on something I've not seen clarified:
I travel from France to England, thus trigger the 14 day quarantine period if not an exempt person. Can you then return to France or travel to another country within that 14 day period, or are they forcing you to stay here for at least 14 days?
No knee jerk responses such as 'don't travel', I'm asking out of interest whether this point has ever been clarified. I have no intent to travel and test this.

If you are travelling then you are not in quarantine. I suppose when France imposes the tit for tat quarantine for those travelling from England to France you would get hit with a double bubble!
If you are traveling you are not in quarantine.
The quarantine rules state you should not leave your residence for 14 days.
The instructions...see link for when you travel to the UK...seem pretty clear to me:
"When you arrive in the UK, you will not be allowed to leave the place where you’re staying for the first 14 days you’re in the UK (known as ‘self-isolating’) unless you’re arriving from an exempt country..."
About 2 million uk residents, myself included, are exempt from the quarantine period. Not that I'd be wanting to go abroad at the moment.

If you are quarantined to your house, then you shouldn’t travel back anywhere as you will have to go through some sort of port / airport here in the UK mixing with others to get back to your previous destination
Can't see why the point needs clarifying, quarantine is quarantine.
Interesting to see that we are all of the same mind. It was suggested to me that they could not and would not prevent you from leaving the country for the following reason:
Upon arrival, you travel from your point of entry to your chosen place of quarantine (which can be on public transport and for many hours). By exiting the country, you are essentially performing the same in reverse - only traveling from your place of quarantine to your point of exit.
It would be interesting to know if you would be prevented from leaving the country/fined upon exit.
Who suggested it to you?
No you can't.
https://www.gov.uk/government/public...avel-to-the-ukYou cannot go out to work or school or visit public areas. You should not go shopping. If you require help buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, you should ask friends or relatives or order a delivery.
No walking dogs either.
In England, you must only exercise within your home or garden. You cannot leave your home to walk your dog. You will need to ask friends or relatives to help you with this.
A (thankfully recently reopened) local brewery-infused discussion around how people can read the guidance and interpret it, but not just flagrantly ignore it because you suspect there's no enforcement.
I really couldn't think of anything other than perhaps those who aren't exempt yet still must travel for work - they travel to and from each country's address, but within the 14 day period for both countries (e.g. France and UK, assuming France will do a tit-for-tat quarantine too).
Regarding getting food yourself, given you can't even exercise other than within your own property/garden, I can't see you being able to go shopping. Challenging/impossible unless take aways if you're one of the recent people impacted by the France change given how far in advance you have to book any grocery delivery now.
Not surprised but you could always read the Government advice for a change.
NHS Volunteer Responders are also available if you need help collecting shopping, medication or would like a telephone ‘check-in and chat’. Call 0808 196 3646 (8am to 8pm) to arrange volunteer support. You can arrange one-off support, or schedule more regular help whilst you are self-isolating.
Brilliant! So I can just phone someone to do my shopping for me for free? This government's thought of everything. Go BoJo
EDIT: I forgot to add, I'm posting while out on a pretty heavy bender. We started at the bowling alley, where we had a few beers and forgot a bit about the distancing etiquette, but I think we just about managed. Oops!
Then we went to the pub and had a meal indoors because of the rain. Obviously we didn't need to wear a mask because we were eating. Had a few more beers and pretty much, we're just hugging people now. No one seems to mind though.
And finally, thankfully, the casinos are now open so we booked in and well, we're here, everyone is spreading the love and there's a bloke coughing his lungs out just next to us, but he looks alright. I'll be here for a while but then plan to go to the 24-hour Tesco and do a weekly shop. Now where's my mask … oh poo. Lost it! Never mind, no one really stops you anyway so I'll just crack on …
Do I need to quarantine from tomorrow?

No, you are in Quarantine!
Another 'non-political' thread.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
However you look at it, each countries response to covid19 has its basis in the way its government has managed the pandemic, governments are formed by politicians so like it or not keeping politics out of the thread is nigh on impossible.
The main reason that we don't directly rattle the political cage - so to speak is that the blame for our response is obvious for all to see.
As for this thread, its entertaining reading about R numbers and mortality rates both here and in other countries but there are so many variables involved that there are no guarantees in any respects.
Don't take unnecessary risks and stay safe.

On top of this we pick any delivery we can get. Sometimes Asda, sometimes Tesco, Ocado etc. The usual names always have a slot if you check them all. We haven't needed to look at an Iceland delivery yet.
Never understood when people say it's booked up for 2 or 3 weeks. Surely you've been booking slots since March/April?

As fas as i know it's only one way - you can go back to France, although i'm not sure how you'd get there if you're quarantined in the UK meaning you're not really allowed to venture into the general public!
That’d be fine, just need to update the form you filled in if you didn’t already declare the outbound journey. There is no requirement to be in the UK for two weeks.
