    Bed bugs

Over the last few days I’ve discovered small pinprick size bites over my carcass that I can only assume are bed bugs. We hoover the sheet each day before making the bed and I hoover the mattress once a forthright too. The little f*****s! Maybe it’s the horsehair in the pukka Vi Spring mattress we have. Maybe hot weather encourages them.
    Any suggestions?

Unlikely to be bed bugs as they don't just appear. You normally have to bring them in, for instance if you've stayed in a hotel that has them.

The normally congregate in the edges of mattresses as they don't like light.

The bites tend to be itchy and red with a darker centre.

Could they be mosquito bites or flea bites if you have a dog/cat?

Hoover the sheets every day - is it just me who never does this?

I would have assumed that the culprits are flying insects encountered outdoors; I've had a few bites myself this last couple of weeks.

Bed bug bites are usually grouped in threes, the classic "breakfast, lunch dinner" pattern. I've had to deal with them twice. Once after we were given a child's bed as a gift, lovely handmade thing, but riddled with bedbugs, and once after having tenants in our flat. First time was a nightmare. Weeks of washing all closes, daily hoovering, chemical treatments. Then a reoccurrence a few weeks later. Your bites don't look like bed bug bites and as others stated they have to come from somewhere, but if you are concerned get a professional in.

Recently got a load of bedbug bites from an overnight hotel stay in France. Caused me to look up on internet.

They appear as blotches first, before swelling up within 24hrs. They don't appear to issue the same clear liquid as mozzy bites, and are less itchy.

They also bite all over, wherever they can, while mozzies appear to prefer soft ankle/wrist skin.

I counted over 25 bites - all over my body!!

But, as said - not as itchy or persistent as mosquito bites.

Having read through this thread I suddenly feel a bit itchy haha.

There has been a lot of missy’s about in the UK with the warmer evenings. My wife has been bitten a lot recently. Could they be mosquitoes?

They don't look like flea bites either.

I have a cat and last year he decided to bring some friends back home with him from about the end of September till November.

Plenty of one touch and spray and a lot of hoovering took care of it but they definitely don't look like they are from fleas. They look to small & blood red where as fleas leave a pinkish bite that's rather itchy. Also you tend to get a group in the same area not just one bite here and there.

Had that happen a couple of years ago. They typically bite in a line.... sometimes known a breakfast, lunch and dinner...no, seriously. Must have brought a couple in on clothes somehow. We have no pets

About 10 years ago we had a cat and every 6 months we sprayed the house with something from the vets.... can't recall what it was called....maybe vet-chem? Well, it kept the house and our moggy flea free plus also killed any woodlice etc.
So, go to your local vets. Get a big can of it. Spray the whole house, following the instructions on the can, starting with the bedroom if that's where you think you're getting bit. Worked for us.
Feeling itchy now...so signing off. Haha

I’ve actually never even heard of it before, so no - there’s at least two of us.

I'm struggling to see why you would Hoover your bed and in two minds as to wether or not it would make your bed cleaner or dirtier. Might depend which attachment you use.

We change the sheets weekly and fold the duvet in just over half each morning to let the bed air and have the windows open 90% of the time in all weather. Never had an issue.

Just to be clear - it’s the bottom sheet that’s vacuumed each day,
. Naturally with my Dyson mattress hand held! It certainly hoovers up something each day which looks like white powder. Too much information....l

I reckon my Dyson Window Blade would do that as well.
