Tropical Watch - Advice please for Rolex 5513

    Dear all,

After selling 1 of my watches last week as a cash raising exercise, I've immediately started looking at 5513's again!

One particular dealer has caught my attention as he installs a "Truedome" crystal in each 5513 he sells. (The truedome was a project to re-create the T19)
I've searched this forum to see what experience there has been with Tropical Watch and it seems some of you have dealt with the owner Jacek, when he was at HQMilton around 5 years ago. (Very positive feedback)
Does anyone have any recent dealings with him?

His Instagram is followed by Hodinkee and Wei Koh so he seems to be well regarded.

The watch in question is this one: It has a few flaws but it is priced well.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Jacek has a very good reputation, watch is lacking a bezel pip and a very important bracelet, don’t forget you will have to factor in import duty, vat, shipping.

As lovely as that one is, my budget won't stretch that far.

Just had a look at his Instagram page, lots of positive feedback from a range of people. The review posted by a purchaser on 27/7/20 is very positive and reinforced by a number of others.

Regarding the watch, agree with the earlier poster: no pip or bracelet, the latter being particularly expensive to replace.

    Beautiful dial though.

Tropical Watch is Jacek Kozubek, San Francisco. I’ve met Jacek several times and bought many watches from him. A gentleman and one of the few 100% entirely trustworthy dealers around, in my experience.

Looks nice. Lots don’t have pips, it wouldn’t worry me. 93150 bracelet can be purchased from rolex if you want, and its comfier than the 9315 folded link.

They always say buy from a trusted seller and I agree with John (11erv) that Jacek is very highly regarded in vintage Rolex circles. As others have said, factor in the VAT sting when the watch arrives in Blighty.

I would have thought with the 20% customs charge etc then it will not work out that much cheaper than the amazing looking one on the SC?

I didn’t realise that Jacek had left HQ Milton, he was still part of the operation a couple of years ago. I have bought four from him, one a part-ex, and have no complaints.

    Yes I did see that.
Didn't some 5513's have earlier casebacks sometimes?

Quite possible, but it might bother someone dropping 10k on a watch if the s/n and case back didn't match

Never seen a case back so early compared to the case age, I would be surprised if it started life on that watch.

2 years is stretching it a bit isn't it......I'll see what Jacek says.

    I've just seen that this 1970 5513 he's selling also has a 68 caseback:

    That one is amazing indeed!
Yes, what matters most is that it's oem.
I'm waiting for him to reply to an email I sent earlier and will ask about this.
