    Simply incredible

I'm still scratching my head in bemusement at this...

I remembered years ago, my Dad had a watch which he never wore. He never wore any kind of jewellery, not even a wedding ring. I remember it took my Mum & I months of persuading him & showing the Littlewoods catalogue to get me a Limit LED watch for Christmas!

I was looking for something the other week, and I stumbled across it. I couldn't believe it:

Which had me thinking, why would he have a bloody Rado when he never wore a watch??!!

So, with trepidation, I wound it, and amazingly, it started to tick! It's been stuck in various drawers since 1980! So excitedly, I ordered a new strap:

It now sits proudly on my wrist, the Seadweller can have a few months off. And I everytime I look at it, I can think of my Dad, but more importantly, what possessed him to purchase it?!

    Cheers

    Adam

Lovely watch and memory to go with it, circulation in your hand might not think so though..

Ha ha! I've moved it down a notch to make it more wearable. Hopefully in a few days, the holiday tan will have faded, so the strap won't blend into my skin tone!

My guess is an impulse buy. It's an attractive watch so I could see it taking someone's fancy then, after wearing for a week or so, they realise they don't like wearing a watch and consign it to a drawer.

Maybe the Rado is the explanation for his hatred of watches!

    Luckily, you appreciate it.

A terrific find. If you are going to be wearing it may I suggest a clean-up and oiling... it is bound to be bone dry.

As it happens, my Dad had a Rado tucked away in a drawer too while he sported a plastic Casio on his wrist day to day. Same thing...never wears his wedding ring. I must find that Rado of his!

Very much so. It’s losing a lot of time, which is understandable. I’ll take it to a watchmaker in Leeds on Saturday

It's great you found your dad's watch. It will have great meaning to you. The pictures don't look like a watch that was never worn though? Rather looks well worn tbh.

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Maybe he stopped wearing it because it started losing a lot of time. That might have put him off spending on watches again.

Whatever the story, it is a lovely watch. Good luck with the servicing work.

Great looking watch, I like the old Rado's and given the provenance and the quality, well worth servicing.

Love the name - Green Horse deLuxe.

I only have a measly Purple Horse.

    Cheers,
    Neil.

    Great find.

These things happen, whilst clearing her Dad's old house my wife found a box with an apparently unworn watch made by Glashütte Uhrenbetriebe. No idea where he got it from.
