    New arrival, Omega Speedmaster FOIS.

Over that past few years I have had a few Omega Speedmaster's. An early 1980's Moonwatch, a Moon to Mars back in 2006, a couple of Speedy Reduced and now this.

I have always loved them on NATO straps and this new First Omega In Space is no different. The leather strap it came on is lovely but the minute I put it on the NATO it just felt perfect.

Until I saw Jim's advert last week for the FOIS I'd never really given them much attention. Initially seeing it was just over 39mm rather than the Moonwatch at 42mm I searched some more as it could be perfect. That teamed up with the slimmer lugs and the applied Omega logo on the dial and the longer indices, the different hands and stepped dial it was a no brainer. The biggest selling point for me was the fact it has the hand wound movement.

It arrived this morning and I duly opened the package. For a watch I'd never seen in the flesh I was very impressed.

Size wise it didn't seem much different to the Moonwatch but on the wrist it felt so much better. Then on the NATO strap its near perfection.

Initial thoughts, I like it. My favourite Speedmaster yet.

I think it’s a beauty for all the reasons you do. I would also wear it on a nato.

The sapphire crystal seems to make a big difference to the clarity of the dial.

Nearly a week in now and its still on my wrist.

Took some more pics at the weekend and have added them to the first post.

This watch has a texture of dial and depth like no other Speedmaster I have seen, or maybe I've never seen one in sunlight at these angles, but I have never noticed the beauty of the dial before.

Just ordered a metal bracelet for it too. After much deliberation and forum searching I've gone for the 1125 with 617 end pieces. I would have liked to get the new Ed White 321 bracelet as rumour has it that will fit the lugs but sadly Omega said it was unobtainable. Having a period style metal bracelet will, I think, give the watch another completely different guise.

You could always consider an aftermarket.

I've ordered one for my Seamaster 165.024. I have an original 1039 bracelet, but these things are identical for less than £100, so I will use that for daily use and the 1039 can come out on special occasions.

Unfortunately, you can only order these from the US site, but they shipped mine on the day I ordered it.

Perfect. Thank for the heads up. I have just ordered a 19mm brushed and polished one and can always brush it all if I don't like it.

For £80 delivered its a no brainer. How long ago did you order yours?

Only a few days ago, they are on the West Coast so a big time difference, but I got a shipping notification and USPS tracking number a few hours after ordering. Will probably get stung for £20 VAT, but still cheap.

I wouldn't brush out the polished elements, that's how an original Ed White 7912 looked.

Uncle Seiko delivery takes 10 days or so. I got mine and took it off within 48 hours. I felt the end links would scratch the lugspace to bits. It’s a nice, vintage-style bracelet - not had at all, just not for me.

Why didn’t you use Uncle Seiko UK? Didn’t they have any stock?

Congrats! It’s a great watch. I’ve been neglecting mine. Think it should come out again. I got this bracelet directly from omega. I’ll fish out the ref (and more pics) if you are interested. It’s rattly like the vintage ones and has a old style omega clasp. Think I paid around £360 for it a few years ago.

I’m delighted to read how much Paneristi372 likes the watch. He was a real pleasure to chat and deal with.

As I said to him at the time of sale, I hate selling anything of my own. I’m anal about standards and try to keep my kit in as near perfect condition as I possibly can. My fear is that someone’s own standards are higher and I let them down.

So, enjoy this lovely watch P372 and it’s great to see it’s finally being worn - just as it should.

    All the very best

    Jim

Anyone else been using one of these uncle Seiko straps on a FOIS? Very tempted to try one.

Mine is currently with the UK Customs, but I don't intend to use it, so will put it straight on SC when arrives.

Which one did you get? I might offer to take it off your hands if 19mm :)
