Lovely video of a vintage Omega getting serviced

As I'm missing any technical competence, I've no idea whether the service as such is 'correct', but the video this guy made is absolutely lovely, with some cool stop motion segments. Hope you'll enjoy it as well.

Enjoyed that, would be good to get more explanation of what is happening and what the bits are as he goes.

Marvellous that all that is going on inside the watch on my wrist.

I have to disagree about your "more explanation" point. To my mind his minimal commentary and subtle background sound topped off a very well made video. Thanks to the OP for posting.

If you need more explanation you might find it in his other videos...link.

Echo the thanks for this. I didn't think I'd have the patience but it was mesmerising. 162k+ views since it was posted a fortnight ago suggests that there are plenty of people out there who appreciate this sort of thing.

It reminded me of the time my name came out of the hat to attend a JLC watch servicing workshop in Harrods, at which we got to strip and reassemble an old Reverso under the tutelage of one of the watchmakers from Le Sentier. Of course within minutes all of us had dropped various screws, springs, or wheels, and were on all fours looking for them. Since the benches were adjacent to windows on the Brompton Road, I've always wondered how many passing JLC owners thought "jeez, I'm not taking it in there at service time" ...

We all do things differently, but a couple of things made me cringe watching this.

I would never handle a dial or hands with metal tweezers, and if I was checking the movement on a timegrapher I would set the lift angle correctly. The machine defaults to 52 degrees, but the Omega has a lift angle of 49 and that'll knock the amplitude down by approx 15 degrees, from what I saw he didn’t bother setting the machine correctly. I also question the way he oils the balance jewels, never seen it done like this and its not something I would do.

This guys v. good at making U tube videos, I’ll give him that.
