Are we to assume the reviewer doesn't know his arse from his elbow. "That 50 year old dial has spent more time under a shirt than on a tropical island". That 50 year old dial is a Luminova service replacement from around the 1999/2000 period. The insert is also a modern replacement. The watch is also a GMT Master and not a GMT Master II.

It's also interesting that the reviewer advises people to do their research. Might be an idea if they followed their own advice.

The article refers to it as GMT Master and not Master II. It acknowledges that it is a service insert but misses the fact that it is not the original T dial.

I think the point was the watch was something that he found he desired even after being exposed to lots of new watches he saw the beauty and purity of the original design. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the whole “ooh has it got the right dial, hands etc”. The watch was given as a wedding gift to the owner it cost $2000 and I’m pretty sure the owner doesn’t look at the watch and say “if only it didn’t have a service dial”. It’s a salutary lesson in enjoying what you own and the sentiments behind it.
