The best way of looking at it is vintage GS is to modern GS as vintage Rolex is to modern Rolex. Will be very good but not to the same level. Will look amazing though- the GS design grammar remains in the modern pieces too
A question out of pure curiosity.
GS has a reputation for dial and case finishing, also for trying new movement technologies.
Assuming that's roughly acceptable as a premise, is it something that's been consistent though their history?
Obviously it's an older watch, with the signs you'd expect, but is the quality of an older GS comparable to a new one?
Asking out of curiosity, possibly because they emerged from Seiko as a bigger brand, so their journey is less clear.

Thanks Ryan B (good to get both of us on one thread!).
That makes sense, you'd hope they're learning and progressing over 50 plus years. They certainly do have a very clear DNA / family resemblance through the years.
Do you sense they're consistent relative to other brands development over the years?

Unfortunately Seiko doesn’t have the same view on their vintage watches as say Rolex, eg you can’t just send any watch ever made to Seiko and they’ll sort it out for you.
You have to consult with indys, and many spare parts are running out or have to be sourced from Japan. The fact that if the wrong part breaks you need to source a donor movement has always put me off spending too much money on their vintage stuff.
If GS wants to become the premium brand they want to they really need to sort this.
Resurrecting this thread, after wandering off into other things, I've been browsing old GS again and think I might have found a winner:

There's something about it I'm just not sure about though, so expert opinions welcome?!

Not sure if youre being serious but thats a terrible fake mishmash that should be steamrolled.
A fake?? But it's got genuine Saiko papers...
More seriously, yes I know its not genuine. Sorry my post was clearly a bit too oblique!
