    Outdoor security cameras - recommendation

    Hi all,
Had a new garage/lean-to built a week ago, and had my MTB nicked from there on Sunday...
I think “we” (not me...) left the door unlocked, that is accesible from the road, via our driveway but not gated off.

Looks like just an opportunist grab, as my Mrs bike, a lawnmower, kids new balance bike etc was also in there but only took mine. Couple of options on who it may have been, but probably just a toe-rag trying doors as they went down the street. It has happened in the area similarly before.

Anyway, thought I would get a little cam set up outside, something inexpensive but with movement detection that will ping my phone as well as be remotely accesible.
Not sure between cloud storage or memory card - cloud being safer.
Would be ideal if it worked off a rechargeable battery pack, but if it has to be mains could look at that.

Any suggestions? There seems to be an overwhelming choice if I just google it.

I use a link XT2 which is excellent. Has an up to 2yr battery life, 1080p, and a very good app.

I've been using this brand, though I've wired everything in with network cable. Some of the cameras are 'plugged in' and some of them I've used the power-over-ethernet capability and just passed the power to them via the network cable. They have various ones in their range, and though affordable, the image quality I've found to be extremely good, as is their low-light performance and durability.

Should mention I record to a Synology NAS which then uploads to dropbox, though if I didn't already have the NAS I'd totally be up for putting a memory card in them, don't see an issue with it if your cameras are installed high enough.

Arlo are good for battery powered cams, have had some for years. Best thing is the speed of notifications by text and speed of viewing.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

I've heard the XT2 is very good - waiting for a price drop to buy three of them

Have a look at Netamo presence - they are PIR light plus security camera in one. Have been using 2 of these for a few years and have worked very well. Record to SD card and also connects via WiFi and so can store images remotely too (drop box or NAS box) no ethernet port so WiFi only.

I was in similar mindset a couple years ago. I bought the arlo but then changed up and went mains with the Swann DVR set. Obviously harder to install. Took me a weekend to track all the cables neatly. Saved me £400 which is what a sparky wanted!

I feel bad that this happened to you. A good solution in your case is to set up the proper home security system, including the surveillance cameras in your garage. Also, I would recommend you set an additional security camera at the back door of your garage to ensure that this situation won't happen again. I can suggest to you this https://www.vivint.com/products/doorbell-camera home security service that provides a good range of security cameras and doorbells for your home.

I’m sure he doesn’t really worry about it around 18 moths later, this is far from the first time you have dug up a old thread with zero value, are you a pay per click/review account by chance?
