JLC Reverso - tell me all about them?

I’ve always admired the JLC Reverso and over the weekend whilst in a watch emporium I made the mistake of peering into the JLC display case.

To paraphrase the nice chap....’Would Sir like to try one on?’

Now before I go on, it’s far to say that I don’t normally do dress watches and don’t often do leather straps (big wrists) but when I put on the Reverso it was like “instant new grail”.

Not exactly sure which model I tried but it was the largest size they had.

So you JLC experts, is there any to go for, or to avoid? I like manual wind watches if that helps.

Also can you get them on a bracelet now, as I’ve only seen older ones with those?

Also a slightly vulgar question but does a chap have to pay the RRP like say a Rolex or can a discount be expected like for example with Omega?

Oh and pictures would be super.

I speculate that you 've tried the Q3858522

I am not aware if there is a bracelet on that. as you also mentioned, the older versions used to have a bracelet option, however, I haven't seen one at the most recent ones; to clarify, am not a JLC expert so I may be wrong.

as per photos, I have a smaller version myself, my wrist though is quite skinny.. plus I love dress watches at this phase of my life

If you can hold out until watch announcement season next year there will be the 90th anniversary models...though if you prefer the grey dials with Arabic markers I assume it's safe to get one now

I have never owned a Reverso but have always wanted to, the 976 being the one i think i would have to opt for as it is the largest version......................i think, but stand to be corrected.

For me the Reverso is a sports watch, not a dress watch, although i can see why it fits that description.

Service costs were 500-600gbp few years ago, in my opinion, best Reversos were the Ultra Thin TT 1931 from around 2012~

An iconic watch that I'd love to own, unfortunately every time I try one I can't get past the feeling that they simply don't suit my wrist.

JLC Reverso - tell me all about them?

My Large duoface, which I just adore. Any collection will benefit from a Reverso. A timeless, fun piece. And yes, 20% discount, perhaps more if a stock item.

You're not wrong about the movement, Simon. This is what I said about it in my blog post...

The real wonder, though, is revealed when the watch is flipped over to show what can only be described as one of the most magnificent movements through the display back. The JLC calibre 873 is a handwound movement providing an incredible 8-day power reserve in what is a quite miraculous twin barrelled design. It consists of 213 parts and contains 25 jewels, all combining to beat at 28,800 vph. As if that’s not enough, the hand decoration is quite sublime, from the Cotes de Geneve stripes to the constellation of stars formed by the rubies and blued screws. In other words, a mirroring of the themes on the dial on the movement itself.

Never really noticed the crown when I was wearing it - it's probably one of those things you notice more in photos than in real life.

Great things reversos, but come in a wide range of case sizes and need to make sure dimensions suit your wrist (flat topped helps) .. the UT cases are quite long lug to lug - c47mm I seem to recall.
My current pair are a blue latitude in classique size - one of the few ways to get small seconds on this case size:
    ..
And a duo in traditional GT size:

    A couple in different styles.

    Reverso Grande Reserva.
Calibre 874 with 8 day power reserve.

    Reverso Gran Sport Chronograph.
Calibre 859 with 44 power reserve.

The Gran Sport is unusual for a Reverso in having WR of 5 atm.

Those are a couple of beauties thanks for posting. The Gran Sport has a bracelet and looks like lumed hands too - very nice.

Reversos are undoubtedly a lovely watch, and something a bit different. Every time I’ve had one on the wrist in the last couple of years, I’ve decided I want one. But, OP, do be aware the services seem somewhat ouchy, the 8-year warranty being a response by the brand to some of the perception.

    See https://youtu.be/c7NRNAh6BqU etc...

The Arabic numerals are also lumed. Albeit neither hands or numerals are the strongest lume you will have seen.

The bracelet has the equivalent of a Rolex easylink adjustment on each side of the bracelet.

OP I have never owned a Reverso (and I don’t think they are quite my thing) but I do think they are utterly lovely to look at.

One observation.... I personally think they look fantastic on leather straps, but I really don’t think they look right on bracelets. Just my personal opinion...

JLC not only provide 8 yr warranty but instant online estimates of service costs.
Just input the reference number. Select what you require such as regular service or your Reverso is running slow.
The configurator is a good ready reckoner for long term ownership such as cost of replacement parts. Well done JLC!
