    Rolex content 1st goldie

    Morning all.
Got my 1st gold watch today. Thanks to Tony topcat
Have to say I’m very impressed with the feel and weight of the day date
Slightly smaller than I’m used to but imo looks fabulous on
Anyway I’ll put some pics up later. Need to get the spare link fitted

Looks fabulous, congrats. I hope to own one some day but now is definitely not the time for me.

Very nice and looks much better for the dial change in my opinion. I think a champagne dial would have been too much.

Agree with Ken's comments, the dial change really makes the watch. I would gladly own this watch, the size is perfect and the dial combo is the best choice IMO, but I just know I`d never get to wear if often enough.

I can`t get my head around the prices folks pay for steel Rolex sports such as the Daytona, but I certainly get this. If you're going to buy anything makes sense to buy the best available and this ticks that box to me, far better than paying a bit less for a significantly older watch.

I'm sure the OP will enjoy this one, he's bought very wisely IMO.

I only wish that every investment that I have ever bought would give me the same level of return as my SS Daytona.

I think Paul is referring to people who pay current Watchfinder prices. We all know you bought yours with your demob money after your National Service.

Only guessing of course, but even todays Watchfinder's price will seem a gift in ten years from now.

Maybe, maybe not, I prefer to buy watches for enjoyment rather than allowing the investment potential colour my thinking. There may come a point in the future when watch prices start to fall, to me it seems likely.

Anyone who owns a Daytona that's doubled or trebled its value hasn`t made any money till they sell it, and their lies the conundrum, to sell or not to sell even though you like the watch do you like it enough to justify keeping it when it represents a fair chunk of money that could be put to good use?

I dislike throwing money away and there's no way I`d pay the new price of a Day-Date, but buying a nearly new one for this sort of money makes a whole lot of sense to me.

I`ve always liked gold watches and I still own a few vintage ones, usually worn on straps. I have a 9ct Omega Seamaster Deville on a generic 9ct gold bracelet that gets worn occasionally, very 60s-looking which suits me fine. The watch and bracelet's worth around £1200, which is enough to have tied up for me.

That’s lovely, I looked at it several times on SC.
As has been said already, the dial is a vast improvement on the original.

Great buy, I have the 41mm WG version and they are a fantastic watch, the President bracelet is a joy and just exudes class. Enjoy it in good health as they say.

Great looking watch and a nice pick up. Like others I think the dial swap worked well.

  17. #17
    I maybe slightly biased................:)

But its a fantastic looking piece and ideal way to mark a special year.

Well done, great watch indeed and great value for money when you considering what some steel watches are going for. Oh and Tony is a great fella as well :-)

I looked at that more than once too, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. (and yes, the dial change was certainly a good idea)

  22. #22
Thanks all for the kind comments
It sure is a superb watch in pristine condition just as described by Tony
It’s too tight at the mo to wear so am taking it to Pragnell this weekend to get the spare link fitted
I’ll be probably to scared to wear it anyhow. Due to getting it bashed up
    Cheers Andy

I agree, as I don't normally like gold watches, but I have to say, that's lovely

That's a seriously nice looking watch. I had a champagne coloured dial on a TT DJ41 and also found it difficult to see, especially with the gold coloured hands, perhaps I should have gone for a dial change.

First watch I've been jealous of for a while, you must be very pleased with it.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Congrats, and welcome to the DD club!

I think size wise it looks spot on, and the dial combo works really well.

Wear it, scratch it, enjoy it.

In my opinion there are very few watches that can carry off the solid chunk of gold look, without looking tacky: that is definitely one of them!

Thanks again. I never even realised the dd have polished centre links
But now i think it looks great
Ps are half links available to buy from an AD. just in case the full link makes it too loose when fitted
    Cheers Andy

I don’t think half links are available for the president as the links are very narrow anyway, had to take one out of mine and the difference is only slight, easy enough to do with the right size screwdriver. Read somewhere a link is about £450.

Congratulations, they do feel very special. I made the mistake of getting a Day Date as my 1st Rolex, and a subsequent Datejust was very much a disappointment in comparison.

Great watch enjoy. One day I’m hoping to get a white gold day-date.

Regarding the link I’ve got 1 1/2 link on my Datejust’s jubbilee, not sure if they do one for the president but worth asking as that 1/2 size link gave the perfect fit.

Congratulations, I'm sure you'll enjoy the watch!

This watch reminds me of Sons of Anarchy, Clay Morrow wears it in the show.

    Congrats, that looks awesome.
