June's Friday watches - Half time results and a challenge

Well, we have made it beyond half way through the year and what a six months it has been, not just in the world of watches either but I shall stick to watches as the rest of it has been done to death elsewhere on the forum.

I'll start with June's watches. After the excesses of May things quietened down a little. A total of 678 watches were posted over the four Fridays from a very respectable 133 brands. Somehow you lot managed to dig out a further 22 new brands, most notably our first Frederique Constant, Luch and even a Titus. I have made a slight change in the presentation of the stats to show the ranking of each brand. Here are the totals (no prizes for guessing who is top this month):

    Half time results

As I mentioned in the title of this thread I thought I would tot up the scores at half time. Quite frankly the numbers are a little frightening. A total of 4095 watches. You may ask why that is frightening. Well, if on average it takes me ten seconds to record each watch then it means that, so far this year, I have spent 11hrs counting watches.... lets move swiftly on from there.

Up until the end of June we have had 4095 watches from a very respectable 283 different brands. The top three will come as no surprise but the fourth place perhaps will be, having been slugging it out with Tudor and Panerai for the last six months Timefactors has come out head and shoulders above them. Rolex has a nice round total of 600 which is very dominant, over 1/8th of the total. Enough preamble here are the half time scores:

    1 Rolex 600
    2 Seiko 523
    3 Omega 409
    4 Timefactors 194

    The Challenge

Lastly the challenge. It may not be obvious but, although we have seen examples from 283 different brands we haven't covered the full alphabet. The first letters of all the brands listed cover all but two letters of the alphabet. The missing letters are Q and X. My challenge to you all is to find and show on any Friday this year one or more watches from brands which begin with the letters Q and X (so no Seiko Prospexes).

To be honest I don't even know if they exist (Q perhaps but X?) so it might be an impossible challenge but it's worth a go. Good luck.

Before I go o bed I have one last bit of watch interest to share. Back in the March Post I posted a chart of the weekly top ten watches for the first quarter. So for a little visual interest here is the chart of the weekly top ten for the first six months. Let me know the resolution is a bipoor and I will try and get a better image.

I am working on a few more visuals which I will start to share when I give the results for this month.

For "Q" we have QLOCKTWO to draw upon -

Wouldn't be too surprised if we had one or two of their clocks on the forum, but the watches never seem to have taken off.

There's Quinting, but not sure how many on this forum would pay Patek prices for what sounds and looks like Chinese xmas-cracker watches... (IMHO, YMMV)...

For "X" we have Xemex, Xeric, Xetum and Xpeda - Brazil's Xpeda seems unlikely, but not impossible, but I'm pretty certain we have one or two Xeric owners on here - I've been very tempted by the Trappist myself:

I know nothing at all about Xemex and Xetum...

These are all I have on my work-in-progress list of extant brands. No doubt others out there, especially in China...

This was brilliant reading. Did I really single handedly get Alexander Shorokhoff to 59th place overall so far! That's pretty surprising.

Great work so far OP, really like the number rankings you've added, some nice extra details which add alot to the nerdy experience. Cheers to you sir.

Great work. Steeldive is quite high now, never seen an AliExpress brand so high before I think.

Interesting reading. A consistently strong showing from Eddie's stable.

Many thanks for taking the time to compile this. Re Q and X, there's a fair few named Xanadu on eBay, any lovers of tat here?

Thanks for all your work Wimm.

Interesting to see how quickly numbers drop off after the big scorers. Even relatively well discussed brands (IWC, JLC) have much smaller showings.

Glad you are enjoying the stats and thank you for the suggestions for Q and X watches, some of them are, lets say, interesting. I look forward to seeing what you guys post over the next six months.

Made more remarkable by the fact that they made their first appearance in May.

Thanks a lot OP for sharing the stats really interesting / impressive number of watches going to and from the forum!

Random question but would you have the split by brand/models - or is that overkill?

Great work putting all this together - much appreciated!

Good question, unfortunately I don't break it down to model. Occasionally I think that to do so would be really interesting but the workload would increase dramatically. Definitely overkill.
