    Wine reccomendation

This might be old hat to everyone but me, but just in case...our village shop recently started stocking this Romanian Pinot Noir. They sell it at £8.65 a pop, but it's a notoriously expensive shop so I suspect it can be had for a lot less. I knew absolutely nothing about Romanian wine but this is absolutely lovely for the price - quite warm and not too sharp, but with a great long finish. Anyway, just sharing the love.

No pic? What shop is it - national brand or just a local shop for local people?

At that price, there are loads of decent wines in the supermarket

It's just our village shop, a one off. And of course there are loads of decent wines at that price, but some wines at that price taste a lot better than that price, just trying to be helpful man.

That’s the right price, they sell it at a lot of independent wine shops in London and it’s often the house wine in a few restaurants I used to go to, it’s a very easy drinking wine and I like it a lot.

The incanta from majestic is good as well.

Thanks for the tip. Romania is a new one on me so will explore!

The local Bodega near me sells a very good red wine that is really vibrant and fruity and comes straight from the barrel. Five litres for seven euros.

One of the things I really miss about being in those parts of Europe - lashings of cheap lovely wine.

Like some Alsace and some Loire valley wines, pinot noir is easy to drink but difficult to age.

I know the greatest Burgundies will age exceptionally well, but it is a very delicate cepage, and those South European wines are meant to be drunk relatively young (<5y)

Romanian/Bulgarian wines can be outstanding. A lot of value for money.
Personally I think though that a wine shouldn’t costs much less than 6/7£... if you realize how much work is put into it.
Most of wines below that price end up in the sink...

Thanks for tip! For cheap-ish supermarket Pinot I do like this one from Marks and Sparks

Most of the £8-10 wines I used to enjoy from Sainsbury's are now £11-15 wines, and the £8-10 wines are now mostly a bit rubbish. I'm guessing the extra duty imposed by our caring Govermnent, who were only thinking of the nation's health, is to blame.

I'll have a look for that Romanian one though – I do like a Pinot Noir
