Shame about the cheap looking buttons.
Put this on the list of things I don't even vaguely need and will never be able to afford, but I really want: a €45,000 (and up!) reel-to-reel deck that's inspired by horology:
“the visual cues come from Horology – bridges, jewelled pivots…it’s something I’ve started with the T-RX and wanted to take to another level. It’s totally unique in the world of R2R..”

Excuse my ignorance but is tape making a comeback then?
It's come and - somewhat - gone again. Ten years ago you could buy studio grade tape decks for sane money, now even the landfill-tier stuff is pricey, and serviceability is questionable-to-non-existant.
The REAL big bottleneck is media to play on them - the boom in R2R was a 1970s thing, when it died a lot of tapes went from charidee shops to tips, what survived has only sometimes aged well; and for every "L.A. Woman", there were 20 "Mantovani plays Bossa Nova". Stuff you actually like - at desirable size and IPS speeds is not uncommonly a 3-figures-per-album proposition.
There are companies issuing new recordings on tape, some of them are even good, but most of it is at the earnestly-German end of the spectrum of music, and prices are properly spendy.
By way of balance, I've heard good tapes on good decks in good hifi systems and the resolution comprehensively kicks the arse of all other media, bar none.
It is, however, an expensive, frustrating, fiddly, space-hungry labour of love...
^It's funny you should mention resolution because even at my basic level, I always felt my metal tape recordings had something that my CDs didn't. I didn't particularly get to grips with vinyl but for some reason I lusted after a Revox R2R deck and then a Nak Dragon much more than other sources.
Oh, and for some weird reason, Krell amps.
Oh, and AE1s.
Didn't get around to buying any of it though.
I bought a NAK RX-202. The one where it pops the tape out flips it round and then pops it back in again to play the other side of the tape. Mainly because Mickey Rourke had one in 9 1/2 weeks and he pulled Kim Bassinger. Naturally Ms Bassinger never came knocking on my door and the NAK ate every tape I put in it and was moved on after a few months.
