    Recent UK Adult Passport Renewal?

    I am an idiot.
I knew my passport was expiring soon. I knew we had a holiday (booked long before Covid-19), in a few weeks.
Did it occur to me to renew my passport?
    Not until today...

Because of Covid-19 there is no 'fast-track' process and no guarantees on turnaround time.

Anyone had a passport renewed recently? How long did it take?
(I've done it online today with digital photo and old passport sent RMSD)

Did ours late March, mine went an English office took approx 7 days, wife’s went to the local office, Glasgow, and was about 18 days, I got the EU colour and she the new blue book. Biggest headache was getting the picture accepted, too dark-too light- head not straight, it went on for loads of attempts.
Did my driving licence last week, 4 days.

Me an missus done ours last month, took only two weeks but...

She went ballastic!!! when they arrived mine was the new blue one and hers was the older style red one! Guess still using up old stock.

Ten years of winding her up every time we travel. Gold.

I put this up a couple of months ago. It took 6 weeks to get my sons passport renewed during the height of Covid, but this may be because it was his first adult passport.

I know someone who got really quick turnaround on their passport recently. They submitted documents on 26/5, and got it back in the post 5/6.

    Thanks all.
It sounds like there is plenty of recent (during the time of 'Lockdown') experience of reasonably quick turnaround. I've read some more worrying time elsewhere e.g. 10 weeks but I guess people who've had an issue are more likely to post about it than those for whom it has gone smoothly.

Likewise, did mine online recently, got it in days.

Sadly, another flaccid, pink one, but c'est la vie as they say in Europe.

I've just renewed my daughters' passports online and one took 3 weeks and the other just over 4 (as hers needed confirmation from a person who knew her due to age, and also I had to resubmit a photo due to a small reflection on her glasses!).

I assume adult ones would be at the lower level, as you don't need a confirmation from someone - but make sure you get the photo right!

Or ten years of her wizzing through the 'EU' line while you queue for an hour in 'other', lol

I did the online renewal on the 18th June and it took 2 weeks from application to having it back. 4 or 5 days of that was waiting for Royal Mail to deliver the old passport.

Hopefully I've dodged the RM delay by sending it SD. It was signed for this morning.

The Post Office Check and Send is a very good service, especially at time like these. Costs about the save as RMSD.

It was 2 days from me getting the old passport delivery confirmation to getting confirmation the new one had been sent (and then another 2 days to deliver it).

Sent mine 10th June , came back on the 15th, they seem to be quicker with older people as my picture hasn't changed much in 10yrs Hair wise anyway.... and less checks to carry out when you send your old passport back

PS: Always wondered why they send you the old one back anyway ??

    Cheers

I always though it was so you had a 'paper trail' of passports for any proof you had to provide for anything, such as you citizenship, or that if you'd used your passport for ID for something (such as opening a bank account) and they asked for the same ID again, you had it to hand.

Old passports can contain unexpired visas that a country will often accept as still valid even if it's in a passport no longer in use.

So signed for on Tuesday morning but it looks like it was stuck in the Passport Office for a while as it was only received this morning.

Application submitted and received: July 5th
Old passport delivered by RM: July 7th
Old passport received by passport office: July 13th
