I did it on a third gen classic.
Lots of patience needed when taking off the back as the clips are rather fiddly but apart from that it went well. No problems with start up or general usage afterwards

Anyone done this and had issues with start up of the device thereafter?

Does you computer see it?
Have you tried plugging it into the mains for a long time
I had a similar problem I had an iPod hadn’t used it for years and it was dead wouldn’t charge etc I plugged in in to charge again and left it for a couple of days and it magically sprang back in to life
Thanks Michael and Lewie
That’s underway at the moment.
The hook up will happen soon
