Hat help from the font of knowledge in style that always costs me money

Guys I’m looking for some advice on hats, due to COVID and the barbers all being closed A few weeks back I bit the bullet and shaved my head. Now I was thinning anyway but it seemed the longer my hair got the thinner it looked on top so off it’s gone, skin smooth now and how it’ll stay.
Couple of things I’ve noticed since being officially bald -
it doesn’t half get sun burnt Yes I didn’t even give it a thought and spent a few days looking like a matchstick
When it’s raining water streams into you eyes likewise when sweating.

So with these things in mind I’ve never really worn hats and aside from a baseball cap I’ve dug out (freebie from somewhere) I’ve got no clue what’s best to look for, ideally I need something for hot weather and another for wet weather like today. I’ve obviously googled and seen a few but without trying things on it’s hard to tell from pictures. Any hat wearers or fellow baldies chime in on their favourites for the seasons ?

I like the woven kangol bamboo ones in hot weather or a linen cap.
I have a panama for smart occasions but it’s not that cool in the heat, a cheaper straw (not straw but some kind of open weave synthetic)by Bailey is good too.

Im not bald but do love a hat be it a baseball Cap, trilby, flat cap or baker boy, there's loads to choose from my favourite brand is Stetson but can be expensive, I also like a Barbour and Alan Paine do some nice ones as well if you like a bit of tweed

Same boat here, having testosterone off the charts has its downfalls

What I find a good option is a bucket hat, think the drummer Reni from the Stone Roses! Light and foldable so easy to have ready in the car or jacket pocket for when the sun/rain appears.

    And as recommended by unclealec!

I own, have owned or want to try the following: -

Tilley T5. It was a bit warm in summer. For more airflow look at the LTM5. TH5 for for the hemp. Lost my T5 and wrote to Tilley about it under, but over their 2-year warranty. They offered to replace it for 50% off, but I really wanted the LTM5. Measure your head and get the exact size. Mine was 7 3/8". They have a secret pocket for emergency cash etc. I didn't like the light grey colour as I am pale enough already.

Tilley T3. Wider brim than the T5 and has press studs. Measure your head and get the exact size. I bought a 7 1/2". That extra 1/8 of an inch makes it too big, and they don't shrink

Sealskinz beanie. Waterproof membrane inside. I have been cycling all day in rain so bad that I had to wring my socks out every hour. Although my hat was soaked my head was dry. I have three of these. Hot in summer.

Smartwool beanie. Merino wool. Useless in the wet. Brilliant in the cold.

Weird Fish baseball cap. Bought it because it was cheap in a sale. Nearly worn out the first one so I bought another. Useless in the rain, but better than wool, although wool allegedly keeps you warm when wet. Keeps the sun out of your eyes. Worn by ne'er-do-wells!

    Sunscreen.

If you are keeping it shaved from now on I would invest in a few woolly hats and make sure you never leave home without one when the weather turns later in the year. Leave one in each coat pocket and a couple in the car!

For summer I either wear a baseball cap or a panama....you might find that a golf orientated baseball cap is a more comfortable fit than a ‘fashion’ brand baseball cap.
I would also get into the habit of sticking some sun cream on the old noggin just before you go out (if it’s for any length of time).

Take the baseball cap, find a wheelie bin miles away, put the cap in. On top of that put yesterday's newspaper and a gallon of fuel. Set it up. When it's cooled scrape up the melted bin and put it in a bin liner. Drive to a council tip at least 50 miles away and get rid of it. Return home cleansed of baseball caps forever.

I can't get this out of my head. Baseball cap? Have you not seen the scrotes sitting on their mopeds outside the chip shop? Have you not seen Crimewatch? "We're looking for this man who tried to rob the post office in Tamworth?". Baseball cap?

There's one exception, if you're playing golf somewhere the sun shines, Florida or somewhere, then - and only then - can you wear one. Just don't wear one with NASA on because it looks naff.

    Playing baseball?

I too found the longer my hair got, the thinner it looked. Went to grade 0.5, and was alarmed at just how thin it was in places.

Boots do a great Soltan Head & Scalp sun spray, not greasy etc & easy to apply when going outside.

Was also amazed how cold my head was, know you lose a huge amount of heat from it but never realised how much insulation hair provided.

Already have a Tilley Hemp hat for adventures abroad, and have been looking for my winter hat options already. Liking the idea of a leather Stetson cap, but having ordered & returned pretty much all the baseball caps I’ve ordered due to being too large I will wait to try one on.

Will get myself a flat cap of some sort of tweed, just not found the perfect one & the weather last week was not conducive to hat shopping.

Baseball cap wise, they all seemed to wear huge on me, standing up very proud from my head, or covering my ears (perhaps I have a flat head?!), but discovered New Era 39Thirty style caps are perfect, pre-curved peak.

It's lightweight and has a decent brim, plus other colours and options are available (see 'Rogue' links on that page).

Wow thanks guys loads to look at, for woolly hats/ beanies I’ve got a few of the paramo ones already which work really well even when wet without sweating too much so hopefully they’ll carry on to be great without hair lol.

anyone else deciding to shave their head completely I’ve found this to be superb under 2 minutes jobs done lasted around 2 months of twice weekly and still going strong.

I took a punt on a north face futurelight bucket hat as I’d read a review about how waterproof the material was and scrunches down etc. It arrived today and it’s so lightweight it’s unreal perfect for the current weather of warm but bouncing down, typically I’m not a fan of north face because of the local scally choice of outerwear but this is quite subtle with greyed out logo. Tested It whilst walking the dog in a shower earlier and I’m very impressed as a foldaway keep in your pocket waterproof hat definitely a keeper, Tilley hats will hopefully be here this week as well .

Those tarp hats looks pretty cool I really like the idea of using something that’s already had a hard life. Good price as well.

+1 for Tarphat; I have the wide brim and the baseball cap! I also have a panama from Village Hats for more formal wear. My only "hair" appointment after 4th July will be for a full polish :-D

A sombrero is what you need mate.
There’s not many who could carry the look off, but it’d be right up your street .
You could also laminate it for waterproofing purposes.
