Has anyone with a smaller wrist tried the Willard? I've watched a few youtube videos but not sure how it will fit

Hello, This is my first post here. I have been looking at the bronze steel dive watches, particularly the black bay one. The thing that is putting me off at the moment is the bezel insert. I was wondering if you could tell me if you thought it could be replaced, or is it cast into the bezel itself? I contacted the seller at steeldive uk and he said he was not into "modding" and couldn't help me.

Thanks for any information anyone can supply.

    Alastair

PS Now I have remembered my password to the forum and due to the lockdown I may well have some more posts to add! I am hoping if I can talk watches with like minded people it may stop me from watching Youtube videos on watches and making compulsive purchases!!

I have a sterile Steeldive Willard - it's a lovely watch, but the case shape means it's a slightly awkward wear even on my 7.25" wrist. One of Eddie's "Baby Willards" would probably be worth saving the extra for - it's the better watch overall and will likely hold value much better, too.

At least in this model it looks to be a bronze insert. Not sure how easy it would be to remove though!

I agree - I can't get on with the Seiko 6105 case shape.

For me it just seems to sit on the wrist rather than following the contours - I suspect it's a wrist shape issue as most reviewers seem to rave about the case.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm tempted to try steeldive uk and if it doesn't suit send it back (think you could do that with them)

I've looked at the baby Willard but if I was spending that money I'd go for the dreadnought

Nowhere near as big as you think it’s going to be.

  12. #562
    Just in Sd 1978 Emperor
Wow doesn't begin to cover it
This is absolutely amazing for the money
Sapphire ,lumed bezel signed crown ,and fantastic build quality , it huge and weighs a tonne on the lumpy.
    Can't fault it ,I had the Sla041 55th anniversary which was 4k
I sent I back as I wasn't impressed for the money, this is right up there with it ,I kid you not.
It's very impressive ,I know all the seiko haters will chime in but I'm not the only one singing Steeldives praises.
I think these homages have there place in our hobby and represents great value
If they van produce these for the price ,why are Seiko prices doubling and the quality is really bad with alignment issues etc.

Last pic with my Pam 285 for size comparison.
The Sd 1978 is huge ,wide and heavy and I love it .
    Enjoy

Ordered one of these. I think it’ll look great on a nice aviator leather:

I quite like the look. Also considering if the San Martin would be a better quality option but I actually prefer the Steeldive logo
I’ve just received the Heimdallr MM300 with the ETA 2824 movement, I had the blue San Martin before ,, this is better quality, bezel action and finish are as good as my genuine Seiko MM200... and with a better movement,

    Bronze Keepers

    Steeldive.jpg

I went for the BB58 in Bronze. Quite impressed seems to be built like a tank! I have put it on a black nato as the strap it came with was not really my cup of tea. I've spent a few hours looking for 22mm natos with bronze fittings, buckle and keepers, but can find anything. Does anyone have any ideas where they can be sourced from? Currently getting lost down YouTube videos about "forced patina's". Ordered the watch on Tuesday afternoon and in came on Wednesday morning! Perfect service. The extra strap that was included was a 20mm (BB58 is 22mm) so steeldive uk are sending me another in 22mm, bonus!!
    Cheers

I have 6.5” wrists and the Willard (well Eddies original iteration in the PRS68 form) is without doubt the most comfortable watch I own. The Baby Willard felt a bit awkward and chunky in comparison and was sold fairly quickly. I also have the Spb183 Seiko re edition that is equally comfortable but lacks that certain something on the wrist when paired directly against the 68. Is slightly smaller though.

Flat wrists play a big part in the feel and look. Downside is I now want to add a 6105 8110/9 to the stable.

Very nice. How are you finding the overall size? I've looked at it a few times now and wondered how it would wear compared to my Sumo version.

    Bought this last week.
Like everyone else it arrived next day and very impressed with the quality

It’s a solid beast. Currently running at +10 seconds a day which is pretty impressive. It was -15 but I opened the back up and had a play.
Can be a bit tricky so I will leave for a few weeks to settle down and see if I can get it a bit better.

Size is great for me but some might find it slightly top heavy. Bit of weight in it and as usual with Steeldive the quality is excellent for the price.

Thank you. Going by the specs my Sumo is the same height and width and longer top to toe.

    @senraw wow that’s a beast.
Didn’t realise they were as huge as that.
The 300 marginally smaller? Or much the same

Marginly smaller and I image, a little lighter!

Specifications should be available via the Steeldive website.

Has anyone got / had any of the Fifty Fathoms styled models?

They look good but are different style to the more commented upon models si not sure how the general comments will translate.

Is the crystal domed or flat?

Big question for me, is why have the not knocked off the Spork yet?!?

They seem quite adept at lifting Seiko's designs so why not this one? Surely there's a market given what the originals go for on eBay...

I’m sure it won’t be long. I never really got the fuss about it but they’re incredibly popular so I’m sure it would sell well.

They look good but are different style to the more commented upon models si not sure how the general comments will translate.

Sorry if I've missed it earlier in the thread (I've skimmed back...but its a long one!).

I have the bronze FF I really like it however:
    1) It does have a tendency to turn my wrist green - I'm looking to invest in a bund style strap to fix this.
    2) The faux aged lume is a bit artificial looking.

Other than that I'm really happy with it. If you are looking at the steel cased version neither of these is an issue, so if you like the style rather than the newer sapphire bezel style then I'd heartily recommend one. If you prefer the Sapphire bezel then there are some nice homages from various other manufacturers (Spinnaker, Reef Tiger, etc.) have no idea as to quality of these although the spinnaker I have (a Hull California dial) is nicely made (for the price).

Just received this one from Steeldive.
Pretty impressed - excellent quality and superb time-keeping.
Sapphire crystal and lumed ceramic bezel - what's not to like.
Put it on a nice rubber but actually the supplied bracelet was also pretty good with solid end-links.
    £99 well spent.

I have the Bronze PAM homage

For 200 GBP it is pretty good value and very accurate c 3spd, the lume is bright and lasts all night. The leather strap supplied was a bit short for me so it is on a Zulu diver rubber.
