    Home office chair recommendations?

My home office chair needs to go it’s not comfortable enough .

can anyone recommend something comfortable that looks good ? Ideally with a high back , swivel and maybe leather but genuine leather not any of that pu stuff !

id pay reasonable money say 5/600

    any suggestions?

You might want to consider a gaming chair. Not the armchair lazy boy style but the ones that look like office chairs. They are extremely comfortable as they’re built for sitting in all day. Our Health & Safety recommend them for working from home but unfortunately have set a rather miserly budget for me.

These companies got good reviews in my research.

I’d look at used/refurbished steelcase leap, humanscale freedom or even aeron.

Some years ago I purchased one of THESE for my home office. Excellent, comfortable and really adjustable. It's not leather but I'm not a fan of leather chairs. The mesh allows air to circulate and that results in not becoming sweaty/clammy.

I have an IKEA Markus which is extremely comfortable at a price about £150.

One of very few IKEA items in my house but excellent VFM.

I bought Herman Miller Aerons for my reception staff and offices. They're at the computer all day and they find it a god send.

I got one recently. Good for all day use and feels like it will last.

    Aerons, all day, every day.

They can be bought second hand for £250 - £300.

Safest bet is an aeron .

I've read extremely bad things about the Secret Lab gaming chairs

    Herman Miller

Look for 2nd hand or old office stock ones , can be picked up for a 1/3 of the price of a new one.

More stylish than an Aeron, have a look at their other chairs. I think my Aeron looks great in my home office

I have this chair and it’s fantastically comfortable (even for long periods):

    Expensive I know...

I had one previously, very comfortable as you say; mine was after I’d put my back out & the standard office chair was awful for my posture.

Embody was the other HM chair as posted by another member. In the right colour combo they’re a great looking chair, but more styled than the Aeron.

    I have one of these...

    https://www.posturite.co.uk/rh-logic...ice-chair.html

A bit more than your stated budget but infinitely adjustable and ergonomically excellent as a result.

Buy second hand - most of the chairs mentioned here you will get for a few hundred.

    Have a look on https://www.officefurnitureonline.co.uk/office-chairs/

I've been working from home for most of the last 10 years and have had one of their 'leather' high back chairs for the last 5. Cost me about £100 as I recall.

It's starting to wear now, but is still comfortable - I bought mine to replace one of those mesh chairs, which wasn't comfortable for hours a day.

Years back, when I worked in an office I did have an Aeron (or something very like it) and it was remarkably comfortable, but I wouldn't pay £1100 for it over mine!

    Herman Miller Aerons here.

The polished metal versions are a design classic and look stunning.
The all black ones can look a bit 'office' for the home though. Obviously the polished metal ones are at the pricier end of the scale.

The downside of owning one is you then become a chair-nerd and start looking for other Aerons on TV shows and films.

I’ve had an Aeron at home for many years; highly recommended !

Overly firm , uncomfortable for long periods of time . Even that they have a strong smell. It definitely doesn't seem like a good chair to sit in for long periods .

Stretch* the budget and go for a Ray Eames SoftPad leather office chair:

    https://www.vitra.com/en-gb/product/soft-pad-group

    * refurbished originals should be within a long stretch!

    Otherwise Aerons are very good.

Was this a fleabay purchase or from a specific website? Looking for one myself as I think the cheap secondhand chair I'm currently using isn't doing my back much good!

They are easy to find either on eBay or via any number of office furniture traders. Google is your friend.

I’ve never used them before , I noticed a facebook advert and contacted them , no aerons but put me down on a waiting list , them later that day told me they had 16 just arrived with 12 already earmarked if I wanted one of the others . Limbar support but no tilt adjustment version expecting delivery on Tuesday. Will report back.

I aquired an Eames chair at one place I worked for 10 years. Black Leather and chrome . Apparently it had been the MD’s then nabbed by someone else then they left and gave it to me.

3 separate health and safety bods tried to take it away from me . They just looked at me blankly when I said “No its an Eames”.

When I left I asked if I could take my chair . They said “No”.

I heard later it was skipped ... shocking philistines.

It was replaced by an aeron but I’d still rather have the Eames .

I was buying my own for work as they like cost-cutting. I couldn't afford the Herman Miller Aeron, so I went for the Mirra 2 Triflex instead. It took a couple of weeks to break me into the chair, due to a fairly knackered back. Now it is brilliant, except that the "mesh" back (it's perforated, not mesh) can be cold, and the forward tilt sometimes unlocks itself when I have the rear tilt on max. Otherwise it is an excellent seat. I didn't want secondhand so I paid about £650 for it.

First post in several years, but feel I can offer some insight based on some pretty intense use of a Herman Miller Aeron. I've had one for several years and use it a LOT. Since lockdown I have been doing long days WFH - typically 12-15 hours per day / 5 days a week - and I never have any back pain / discomfort from sitting for so long. I first got the chair after consistently experiencing back ache and tight shoulders when working from home a few years ago. Since I've had it, no issues whatsoever. It's well recognised for not being cheap, but it seems well made and hard wearing - no wear marks or sagging at all on mine. Got mine new, but the wear and tear experience would make me pretty confident in going for second hand if I buy another for another family member. I remember I baulked at the price at the time, but looking back I am glad I prioritised spending on the chair rather than something more immediately appealing (e.g. new phone, new laptop).

I have a RH Logic 400 XL. Been going strong now for 8 years and adaptable in many different ways to suit most people. These can be picked up on eBay for a quarter of what I paid. I work from home and it has been used almost every day for a minimum of four hours and maximum of 14 hours and is still going strong.

I bought a refurbished "Humanscale Freedom High Back" ergonomic chair from these guys: https://corporatespec.com/
(I've no affiliation with them whatsoever).

They replace the fabric or leather with new material and basically make it look and work like new again. I was very happy with mine. It arrived next day and is a large saving on a new one (not that I would spend that kind of money). I notice they have a few Aerons in stock too for £500.

If anyone is looking at Aerons don't forget they come in three sizes, A, B & C. The vast majority are size B but I need a C which are nowhere near as common & hence seem to command a premium.

The chair you describe chair exists, but not at this price. It's called the Eames Soft Pad Chair Executive, and they are $3500ish.

I have used the Herman Miller Sayl Chair on a number of occasions where I needed a more stylish and lower cost alternative to the Herman Miller Aeron. It's a good chair, but not available in leather.

The Steelcase Gesture is another good choice, available in leather (and about a hundred other upholstery options), although above your price range. The leather versions start around $1500.

Not leather but have a look at the Boss Sona Chair.
I used to suffer with lower back problems so I'm very conscious about things like office chairs and these have so much adjustment!

These things are so good I bought them for the entire team and there's never been a single complaint.

    We buy ours from Apollo.

I use a Humanscale Diffrient World Chair and highly recommend. Extremely comfortable even after 18 hr plus days (sadly I'm speaking from experience). It has a mesh back as opposed to leather which is more comfortable in my experience. I'd def recommend buying a refurb as they're pretty much as new and quite a saving on new can be had.

After working from home full time for a couple of months this year (like many) I started to get a bad back & bad neck.

After a bit of research I got a HAG Capisco Puls 8010 Saddle Chair and also made a real effort to improve my posture when working at my desk.

Both things have helped a lot.
