Breakdown - cant contact the AA

    What a bloody nightmare.

Mrs V broke down on the M4 earlier and cant get through to the AA

She spent ages trying to get through to the emergency call line and it would simply go dead after a few seconds - no announcement / recorded message or anything.

She called me so I gave it a try from where I am - same thing, it doesn't even ring, the line just goes dead after a few seconds

I then tried calling their customer services - same again, line goes dead

Looking at the website I see you can report a breakdown via email - I have emailed with no response - has anyone read it? Who knows.

    Anyone else had this problem?

you could do that, seems like a right faff when you already have a policy. If you are worried about her (no doubt you of course are) then you could give them a call to find how long they will be to see if its worth it

    Keep trying the AA

Well she went into the services to have a coffee and try to call them - after about 30m she started the car up and no lights came on so she decided to risk pushing on.

She's now covered about 20 miles at a steady 75 and tells me that it all feels fine.

She had a one of these Fiat 500's when I first met her which my son in law had to periodically fiddle about with (hes a mechanic) due to the generic and engine warning lights coming on. He said that it was due to the poor quality sensors and general build quality.

Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed that she can make the remainder of the nearly 200 miles left without breaking down.

The memory of her MX5 engine disintegrating near Membury Service last year is still fresh in my mind!

I had a Citroen C3 a few years ago that used to drop into limp home mode fairly often. The garage said there was nothing wrong with it, just switch it off, leave it a couple of minutes and switch it back on again. Would go OK for a couple of months and then do the same again.

Have a glass of wine ready is my advice.

I had this with the RAC a couple of years ago not answering their emergency number which left me nicely in the poo. They were kicked into touch the next day after 11 years expensive recovery membership with not a single previous call-out from me. I will chew my own *ucking arm off before I ever go with those barstewards again!

I do that when I'm running out of fuel! Not sure the logic is 100% correct, mind.

I previously have used saynoto0870.com to search for alternative numbers. I searched on my phone and the site is strange looking. I found a couple of numbers - may or may not help!

I've used them a couple of times - called from the app. They can locate you via the app and you can track the technician in his way to you.
