Hey gang,
I've recently been reducing my collection but I have my 40th coming up in August and my wife wants to get me something I can hang on to. Budget would be around 350 quid.
I currently have a GMTII, a SubC and a Speedy sapphire so was thinking maybe something dressier so I dont constantly ignore it! I've always been somewhat drawn to the bb36, maybe I just lump in some cash and go for that?
Any thoughts gratefully received :)
A PRS36 is almost in budget & is a lovely thing.

In this price bracket I would go for a Tissot Visodate all day long.
Smiths Air Ministry? You snooze you lose. Not exactly dressy but get one while you can...
Or how about a Baltic 3-hander? Various dial options/colours and almost bang on budget.

For £350 you might snag what I’m after a Seiko sarb033
How about a Hamilton jazzmaster thinline quartz - £375

Maybe a Seiko presage of some kind? There are some good looking models in that price range.
I agree , may be the SRPB41J1 , SRPB43J1 or similar.https://simpkinsjewellers.co.uk/seik...xoC77gQAvD_BwE

Something left field, if you're daring! Reincarnation of the classic Pulsar P2 which I can attest is pretty cool on the wrist, as they sit and wear well.

A little bit more than budget at £675 but not outlandishly so.
With it being a 40th from the missus take your time and make sure you choose a keeper
In the other Seiko 5 thread someone posted a picture after arrival. It has a bb vibe (though enough of its own style) and fits well in budget.

marchingontogether!
Another vote for the handsome PRS 36
A lot of watch for the money IMO

Tissot T127.407.11.041.00 Powermatic 80 Silicium would be my choice.
One of the Hamilton Khaki field mechanicals
+1 for the presage. A friend has the SRPB43 and the dial looks great

Have you thought about some of the microbrands available? They can offer something different sometimes
I've bought a Hamtun Kraken 2 last year -> https://hamtun.co/
Alkin get some good write ups too -> https://alkinwatches.com/
Both these guys fall into your price range.
I’d also go Hamilton Khaki or Seiko Sarb. I bought the champagne dial Hamilton recently and love it. Nice heritage which feels appropriate for a birthday.

Vintage seikos at that price are wonderful watches. Have a look at the Weekdater, for example.
The Hamilton is very nice - I'll investigate that some more!
Another Hamilton to consider!
Going for a Hamilton, after saying dress watch decided a field khaki!
Thanks for all the great suggestions!
A bit late to this thread, sounds like you might have made your mind up but have you considered an accessory, rather than a watch?
You could get a pretty nice winder / case for that budget and you could use it everyday. That way it doesn’t have to compete with the rest of the collection...
Only just outside your price range second hand and one of the prettiest, classiest watches for the money, Longines Conquest Heritage L1.611.4.75.2.
I picked up a Khaki field with the H50 movement from SC and have grown to love the watch, the time keeping is excellent. If you can try one first I would as I think all finishes have their merits, I would have gone white dial but have the bronze cased PVD and it’s a bit different.
Enjoy.
I doubt you’ll find anything better finished with a totally in-house movement than a Seiko Presage. The dials are amazing.
How about a nice vintage Longines or Tissot?
You might even find an Omega in your budget.
It'll be a small (36mm would be as small as I'd go, personally) watch, but it'd certainly be different to what you have.

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
40th Birthday?? Must be time for your mid life crisis! Buy some monstrous fully featured Diver's watch or a ridiculously over priced special edition G-shock!

Certina DS Podium, COSC quartz movement and a few different dial and strap options for under your budget with the 15% discount.

Or indeed (if you can get one!) Eddies Everests 36mm, look lovely on a strap! Cheers, John B4
Tissot visodates are lovely things and in price. I really like mine. I think though, the op should consider, how much does he want to mark the birthday and his wife's gift and will a nice but relatively affordable watch give the feeling/enjoyment wanted? Especially alongside other watches in his collection that may seem 'nicer'. He may not be bothered by the value at all, but be sure of that before proceeding and if left in doubt, perhaps put more in or save over a few birthday/Christmas/ father's Day whatever occasions.
This was exactly what I was going to suggest. A birth year watch, and coincidentally the first that came up in my search was a quartz G10 on eBay.
