The big 4-0. Double grail incoming...

So, I hit 40 today and I’m very ok with that despite all the taunting from loved ones, friends and various randoms over the last few months. I had my “s**t I’m getting old” moment 3 years ago when I started training for boxing with a bunch of 20 year olds and despite being in the best shape I had been in quite some time, a 37 year old body doing burpees doesn’t bounce back off the floor with the same elasticity and youthful enthusiasm as it did when it was a 20 year old body!

Anyway, all the light-hearted ribbing has been largely water off a duck’s back, helped in no small part by the knowledge of what was waiting for me today. These incomings represent 2 of my last 3 remaining grails, and I am pleased to have nailed my 2020 goals post from post 69of this thread from December 2019...

So here are a couple of snaps. Apologies for the slightly ill-fitting blue replica strap on the Aquanaut, I wanted a practice shot before cutting the real thing and I’m 4 glasses of champagne and a beer in now, so will probably leave that exercise for tomorrow. Needless to say I’m delighted and will do a bit more of an in-depth post about the actual watches in the near future. For now, I’m going to get tucked back into the fizz. Cheers!

Happy birthday and congratulations on acquiring two utterly amazing pieces I honestly don’t know which I’d chose if given both simultaneously. Fantastic problem to have

6 months, do 500 to 600 miles in them then I give them to the wife to pass on to a homeless charity and move on to the next pair. Two pairs a year, no point keeping the demoted ones, got a wardrobe full of them.

I get a pair for my birthday in June and the second pair for Xmas - so I don't have to buy them.

Happy Birthday! What a way to start decade 5 on the planet. It does beg the question, with those two in the bag at 40 what comes at the next milestone birthday? Paul Newman’s Paul Newman?

Speechless. Just need a VC :-).

They are superb pieces. Oh - Happy Birthday!! As regards the PP sizing - take one piece at a time - I found my Aquanaut stretched just a little after a while though...

Happl Birthday Mate and LOVE those two pieces, huge congrats....

Happy Birthday. Excellent pairing. Have you got them both new?

Yes, be careful with the Aquanaut strap. Expensive mistake if it goes wrong, and zero adjustment. I chickened out and got the shop to do mine.

Thanks! Yes they’re both from ADs at retail which was a nice result.

What a pair (actress... bishop!), just about my perfect grails at the moment. Happy 40th.

I've got the next big milestone coming in a few weeks & hadn't thought about a treat for myself, so you've set me thinking now......

Many congratulations Cliff, on all milestones, age and horology.

I can't even recall what I did for 40th. Must admit that age ceased to be relevant after 29 and the body and common sense just tells me when I can't do what I used to.

    Enjoy the afterglow.

Funnily enough when I bought my Aquanaut Traveltime my other option was that exact same AP.
    Should’ve bought both.

    Congrats.

    That AP is properly lovely.

Thanks again guys. I made the fatal error of falling asleep about 10pm and with the day’s over-indulgences playing havoc with my insides I’m now firmly awake at 4.34am. Which is a pity... because it is now my Dad’s birthday and we need to do it all over again. And then on Monday, it’s Mrs C’s birthday and we need to do it all over again, again!!!

    Life is tough!

My final grail is a Patek 5170p. I started a project a few years back and at the start decided that, if successful, I would get myself a 5170p. The project is going extremely well and I am hopeful (but it is far from guaranteed) that I’ll be in the position to tick that final grail off in 2021.
