Hi just got my 240 v makita angle grinder out this afternoon it’s practically new I’ve only used it for half an hour since buying it and it’s completely dead looked at the screw fix receipt and it’s warranty has run out by six months which is Typical does anyone have any idea what the problem might be ?
Get a meter out and find how far the power goes.
Try screwfix or Makita direct, it will be obvious how little use it has had.
Did you register it I’m sure Makita have a 24 month warranty
The problem may be that they are not great, I had one a while back and it burned out first time I used it - was from screwfix, I took it back. Although if out of warranty you should be able to get it fixed through a service centre. I use dewalt tools now mainly and they are for the most part reliable unless you seriously abuse them!
I'd email Makita anyway. A book slid off the bookcase behind my computer desk and hit my Logitech keyboard, snapping the little fold out foot that raises the back of it. It's a snap in thing so I emailed Logitech to ask if the part was available, they sent me a new keyboard by return! Shy bairns get nowt, as we say up here.

Stuck brush
I just thought it was really strange how it went from perfect working order to dead
My Bosch one made “an expensive brown smell” last week so I replaced it with a Makita one from screwfix just last week
Had loads of Japanese makita stuff over the years that’s been excellent
I note that this one was made in Romania
Time will tell- it was £45 with a voucher so pretty cheap really
If they still sell the same model in SF, repurchase and return the faulty one in a few weeks.
Unlikely there is any batch tracking on this stuff, if anyone looks at the date stamp on the device then it’s clearly NOS.

Contact Makita and explain the situation.
Having been to their factory and service department and understanding how they work (due to their sponsorship of my Rescue Team) I'd be very surprised if they didn't step forward and assist you with this.
Sometimes if you contact a company out of warranty, there is a slither of a chance they will send you another.
It can happen, I have a food blender die out of warranty and they sent me a much better one for free lol.
Sounds like the brushes need changing to me
What size is this grinder ? 4 inch, 9 inch ??
I'd just suck it up and buy a fresh one,

Still unlikely. Failures of this kind are generally due to a brush stuck in the brush holder which fails to drop to maintain contact with the commutator as the brush wears. Could be a loose contact, faulty switch. I would take it apart and run a test meter over it but you need to know a bit about sparks really.
Take it back, if they start to get difficult tell them sparks will fly
With a multimeter you can likely find the cause of the problem - and you can do so without it being plugged into the mains.
