Sinn 556 - Thoughts Bracelet or Leather

Decided to give the Sinn 556 a try and would appreciate how people who own them find them overall.

I prefer the look of the 556i indices model especially with the red second hand but undecided if its best on the bracelet or leather. It seems they can be picked up slightly cheaper on leather but is bracelet model worth the extra money over leather?

My personal preference is to pay the extra and get the bracelet, it suits this watch nicely and makes it usable for swimming / water sports / holiday wear. Straps (OEM or otherwise) can be added to change the look. This is a versatile watch so I wanted to keep the options broad.

Thanks, I have noticed there is not a lot of difference in price anyway.

What does the bracelet wear like as it looks very thick and clunky with very little taper. Is the clasp any good?

Buy with the bracelet - wear on leather if / when you prefer.

Another vote for the bracelet. Wouldn't have my 556a any other way!

I wouldn't say it was thick, clunky or uncomfortable, and the clasp is fine at this price point IMO, and even has an extension link.

One of my favourites, and so versatile.

Thanks all, it makes sense to get the bracelet.

Such a great looking watch. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. It’s perfect on the bracelet IMO. I must get myself one one day.

Lovely watch, especially on the bracelet. Not to derail the thread too much but how is the lume?

White second hand for me. The whole point of the watch is legibility - IMHO obs

Love the bracelet personally. The Sinn leather straps are overpriced for what they are, you can easily pick up something of comparable quality cheap enough then purchase a Sinn buckle if you want to match it. I found some really nice straps from ukwatchstrap.co.uk if you go for the top end of what they offer you can have cordovan or russian leather, whatever you prefer.

Several reviewers on Youtube go on about how good the Sinn 556 is and the H-link bracelet. I've been thinking to buy one too, on the bracelet of course but my dilemma is black dial with H-link or blue dial with fine link. As others have said, I would go with the H-link for the black dial.

I’ve owned both Arabic and Indices dials, on bracelets and straps. I’d definitely recommend the I on the bracelet, but I’d go for the fine link version. Great watches, were just a bit small for me.

In all honesty, it's not as good as you might expect. Good for a field watch. Not dive watch good.

And there's a slight issue with the indices dial, in that at night, there's no way to orient the watch face.

There's a reason omega puts those two little dots either side of the 12 o clock marker, and it's not just so that it looks like a willy.

Off at a tangent here, but have you considered the 836? It's larger (which may or may-not be a good thing for you, but certainly makes it more legible!), is tegimented, and has proper anti-magnetic shielding - all at a cost admittedly, but if you're not a serial flipper, it's going to be the better bet for longevity at about 1/3 more cost.

As for straps - I have the same bracelet on my U1 and it's the most comfortable bracelet of any I own. The branded rubber straps are disproportionately expensive, and I'd probably look at Meyhofer for something similar when I fancy a change. The leather bands are outsourced from Di Modell and Rios, so cheaper to buy from strap specialists sans the Sinn branding.

I have but the date at 6 ruins it for me. Just offer the 556i in two sizes!

This is the A version, but I'll go bracelet all the way primarily due to I'm biased towards steel bracelets.

Anyone had both the fine link bracelet and the H-bracelet? Having only experienced the H-bracelet, how is the fine link in terms of comfort? Does it taper? It looks great, imo.

I really like one but I have it on the fine Sinn bracelet

If you fancy a leather strap I can strongly recommend this guy it only cost £17 and he does custom stuff for the same price

The received wisdom is always buy on bracelet as OEM straps are overpriced so the value prop (and resale opportunity) favours bracelet.

Just to throw another opinion in the mix (and meaning no offence to anyone):

I must say that as someone who doesn’t like the look of bracelets on a lot of watches, I think it’s a matter of spending more money on something I won’t use just so that down the line it might be more attractive to someone else... your personal tastes and preferences may vary.

So I picked one up and must say impressed.

Look fantastic. How are you finding the bracelet? And do you mind if I ask where you bought it from.

I look at these photos of it on the bracleet, and it just doesn't look like the two match each other.

The texture of the bracelet looks like it is totally different, a shinier or finer texture of brushing than on the lugs and bezel of the watch, making the bracelet steel look a darker grey.
Happy to be corrected, but that is certainly what it looks like.

I did not intend to get the bracelet originally mainly because I wasn't keen on the H link style, however I can confirm the bracelet is excellent and in person looks and wears so much nicer than I expected.

The texture on the bracelet and colour is a perfect match to the watch, fits the lugs perfectly and just works. The clasp could be improved but it is functional and feels solid. Overall I would say the bracelet is a step down from a Rolex oyster but certainly on par with the likes of Omega.

As per my comments below I am very surprised at the bracelet as I was not expecting to like the look or imagined it would feel nice on the wrist. The bracelet really is buttery smooth and extremely comfortable on the wrist.

I purchased the watch from SC and must say for the price or even at RRP is really feels like it represents good value.

This is great thanks. I’ve had my 556a on the H-link bracelet for a while now and, whilst I do like it a lot, I’m fancying a change.

Having owned the Sinn just under a week and although finding the bracelet extremely comfortable I decided to try the watch on a rubber strap.

I was going to go with a WatchGecko or Uncle Seiko but decide to spend the extra money and get an original Tropic and I have to say I am not disappointed. The colour is great and the strap is so smooth being vulcanised rubber fitting the wrist like a glove, it is defiantly worth the £75 asking price.

For anyone thinking about a Tropic I would highly recommend them, I purchased this one from WatchObsession.

So here are a few pictures of the watch on the tropic, I think it looks great.

The size and simplicity of this model makes it go with every form of strap IMO. So versatile. Def a perfection category watch. Apart from the standard dreadful sinn AR..... Lol.
