I would imagine that they would try and sell you something else
Hi all,
Title says it all really.
As a Rolex noob with no history of purchasing Rolex, what would happen if I wandered into my local AD (after lockdown of course) and enquired about purchasing a no-date Sub?
Would I be laughed out of the shop? Encouraged to purchased another brand instead or placed on a long waiting list?
Thanks,
Phil

No harm in asking, I walked into an AD and got a Sub date.

Whatever they did, I bet the result would be that you'd walk out of the shop without a Sub! Or even ordering one...
As you are in Chester go into Mappin and Webb when they reopen and they will let you 'express your interest'. You might be lucky (from your perspective of course) if people ahead of you decline the Watch because their circumstances have changed. I'm sure it is bound to happen.
You can but ask...
Just try it when they reopen if i was laughed at i personally would not use that shop again but if they could not accommodate you i suspect they would try to sell you something else
Like a £15.00 Casio which does the job and lets you spend your hard earned on something else.

I FEEL LIKE I'M DIAGONALLY PARKED IN A PARALLEL UNIVERSE
You wouldn't get one as a walk in but I reckon within a few months. Ironically Central London could be your best bet - the usual wealthy tourist brigade aren't going to be around any time soon and with many people working from home the office crowd won't be around either so it could be an opportune moment to actually be able to buy the watch you want as they will have been allocated a lot more stock than regional ADs
I reckon they’d sit you down and offer you a discount and let you put it on interest free Chucky as well because they’ll be so desperate to move stock on .
Then they’ll put you top of the list for a Pepsi or Daytona for being such a good customer.
Bye, bye.
It’s worth a try. Try the old chestnut about it being for a special birthday. You never know. It’s not like you’re asking for a Daytona
I’d hope that you’d get a more enthusiastic response now compared to a few months ago. These ADs have sales targets to hit. With shops closed, I imagine that April and May sales were not what they’d have hoped for and wider macro conditions mean their lists may not be the same source of certain sales that they once were.
You'd go on a waiting list, is the most probable answer.
If you have a Sports Rolex and wish to trade up then any number of posibilities would present themselves and they'd be nice to you.
Imagine if , for instance, car dealers operated in the same way
What a ridiculous scenario.
The new models don’t look as good as the older ones any. Buy used.

Suspect outcome would depend on whether they saw you get out of a Vauxhall or Ferrari.
Surely any decline in potential customers is balanced out by Rolex's manufacturing shut-down during COVID?
You will become an expert in Tudors after 30 minutes as all the Rolex take 3-5 years of being on a list.
