    PRS29A & PRS29AM - Both crowns feels different

Finally received the PRS29AM yesterday. It's a real beauty ! Splendid finish on the hands !

I also have a PRS29A which I bought from TF back in March.

Comparing the crowns...there is a difference in the feel of the crowns during winding and when pulled out.

    PRS29AM

    - crown feels tighter during winding
    - When pulled out, also feels tighter.
    - When pushed back in, there is a cushion like feel

    PRS29A

    - looser when winding
    - easier to pull the crown out
    - Audible "tack" sound and less cushioned feel when pushed in.
    - There are times when the crown doesn't come out all the way when pulled or go back in all the way when pushed.
    - So far has kept good time and has a higher than listed power reserve.

Both have the same movements but different crown "feel"

I am wondering if there is a problem or a coming problem with my PRS29A crown ?

I had the PRS-29a and mine was pretty much as you described. Have had a couple other watches with the same movement and each one wound a little different, or at least it felt as though they did. I believe it has something to do with the size of the crown. I know it sounds weird but I believe it to be true. I cant say as to why there is such a difference between your PRS-29a and 29am because they are essentially the same watch, just different dial and hands.

It depends on the size and shape of the crown but primarily on the rubber washers involved with the water resistance.

Difficult to say without seeing and feeling.

I have both the 29A and 29AM and the winding action is definitely easier on the 29A. That's not to say the Air Ministry is difficult to wind, just needs a bit more effort than the other.

That's good to know. I was beginning to think I got a dud PRS29A

Does the crown action (when pulling out and pushing crown back in) feel different on the PRS29A and PRS29AM ?

Anyone else with both models willing to chime in ?

PRS29AM - What a watch ! After two wears, I am smitten. Looking to buy more straps to match the cream dial.

I’ve got both - the PRS-29A seems easier to wind - but both perform exactly the same otherwise.

Yep - the 29AM is a stunner no doubt!

As far as I know it is the standard grade 2801-2, but Eddie may have them regulate them better at the factory. Mine ran about +2 a day like clockwork.

    Thank you for the feedback.

Been really fun putting on different straps on the 29AM. Most straps that suit the 29A also suit the 29AM. So far both models look best on perlons.

I was surprised how much I liked it on the supplied black NATO as well. Currently waiting for a Horween strap for mine

I have the 29a mk2. I’d never had a manual wind before so wasn’t sure if that was the norm. But I would say it is very stiff. Such that I was worried about overwinding as it was hard to tell sometimes when you’d reached that limit/fully wound . I’m sure there are variations as with anything mass produced.
