Sounds pricey to me but then i am a meany...!! I mostly try to do things myself to save money but probably doesn't look as go as professionals when its finished.
I got a quote to have 4 square meters of block patio paving in my garden using a pretty basic slabs. The quote was £975.
This was to dig in to the grass (nothing to be taken up), materials and labour.
Is this about right? I am based in Chelmsford. I am getting other quotes as well but waiting for them to come in.

Sounds pricey to me also, maybe a case of he doesn't really want the job, so it's a win win for him if you go for it or not.

Making up for lost time is my guess, or they are not bothered about winning your business.

Does sound expensive but it depends on the paving, it can be very expensive per sq m. Maybe shop around online to find paving you like, that will give you a good idea of the main material cost.
Cheers chaps. I’ll see what the other quotes are and go from there. Oddly he seemed keen for the work having not worked for 4 weeks.
My patio replacement starts tomorrow.
18m2, no turf as already is on hard standing, but needs a small amount of concrete breaking out first, then usual mortar base and slabs laying. It’s £1400 incl VAT for materials and labour, excluding the cost of the flags (which I have bought already).

Sounds like the OP should get another quote.
BTW, can I suggest weedkiller & an anti-weed membrane goes down before the slabs?

It's more that I would be willing to pay. I'd get another quote, or/and ask him why it's so much.
Second quote is 700. Much more reasonable. Thanks all.
