Looks like it would attach to a chain so I’m going with some kind of mini weapon to attach to a pocket watch chain.

Looks like some sort of one way valve that widens if pulled the wrong way. No idea what for though. Other thing that sprang to mind was some kind of barb device for fishing

i wont spoil the fun but have seen one of these before and interestingly enough it was attached to the item it was designed for, i'd imagine it was no match for the artful dodger though

Yeah, saw this on one of those facebook promoted posts. I did guess it right before reading the blurb.

My second guess was some sort of grappling hook.

Managed to guess what it was from the comments above. Failing that I would have ended up google image searching!

Link, so as not to spoil it for others still guessing

The function isn't what one might assume at first glance

‘Tis a Victorian solution to a severe case of constipation. Up it goes and out it comes.

I can't help thinking that, once this has deployed and prevented your watch being stolen, you're going to need to buy a new waistcoat (and consequently a whole suit). Unless it's a gold watch I'd say the gains are marginal.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
