    House Shoes? (definitely not slippers!)

Please do my thinking for me...
I'm looking for a pair of 'house shoes' as I don't wear shoes in the house normally but wandering round barefoot for 10 weeks of 'lockdown' is taking its toll on my feet.

I do not want anything that look like granddad's (plaid) slippers and do not want anything open-backed. It would be great if they can be bought from Amazon (Prime). I'd prefer not to spend too much on them - every £ save here will be spent on watch straps down the line.

Take the **** if you like but if someone could occasionally throw in a reasonable recommendation it would be appreciated.

    I just bought a pair of these;

    https://www.magrigg.co.uk/barbour-me...xoCl7MQAvD_BwE

I have a pet hate of walking over non-carpet floors and feeling dirt on bare feet. I decided to go for the full on grandad look - they are very comfortable.

No-one is going to see you, and we won’t say a word. Go for the Grandad look. You deserve some comfort.

Unfortunately I really don't like open-heel shoes. It may be due to my foot shape but I never feel they're going to stay on my feet.

They do look good - I could even wear them outside the house.

Ah... these fail another prejudice of mine. I hate shoes with a pastie crust so that rules out moccasins and boat shoes.

I have teenage children who have inherited my sense of humour (that can border on the cruel at times). I need comfort without grief from the kids.

Then you're asking the wrong people! This forum - is very unlikely to provide you with suggestions that your teenage kids will approve of. They may just mercilessly mock you even if they really are great house shoes.

Can you not get them to choose them if it is their favour you seek?

Just bought a pair of these. Very comfortable, and I like the way Clarks shoes fit.

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

I wear what are called, I think, "kung-fu" shoes. They are similar to plimsolls, but lighter. :)

    Best wishes,

We are of like mind and I'm very hard to please. Don't like slippers, crocs, 'pasty crust' moccasins or anything slip-on as I'm liable to break my neck when they slip off (which they will do at the most embarrassing moment). Recently got a pair of these Karrimors (Amazon) and am in 'house shoe' nirvana! Yours for £30. Merrell do similar but more expensive and not as nice IMO.

NB: They only come in brown and you'll need half a size bigger than your normal size. I wear mine without socks, so if you'll be wearing socks too I'd go for a full size up.

i've been trying barefoot hiking, tenfingers when going to gym/boxing and a lot of clown looking shoes at work for years. Honestly my feet look like those of native tribes in africa or south america. But so much more comfortable to spend all day on feet and even hitting 50 yo my endurance and leg strength is increasing..

10 weeks in lockdown barefoot will start to replicate that and your feet will begin reverting back to their natural shape. Id say stick with it. Arches will be stronger than ever and six months in there will be no more discomfort.. after that all will be a different gravy

    Has to be some Toms...
Most comfortable and smartest house or summer shoe imo...

    Thanks all.
I've decided to give these a go for £14. There were some used ones on Ebay for £12 but I'm not going to wear someone else's slippers for £2.

    They're quite understated, aren't they.

Presumably best twinned with a smoking jacket and cravat. Is it essential to have an underground lair?

Is that a UXB on the crest?

Smoking jacket is a must, silk, double breasted. Forget the boys toys stuff

..... you need a houseful of shallow scantily clad females for the full Hugh Hefner look.

These are mine. Converse 8.5 fit me perfectly, comfy and easy to slip on and off. Replace laces with shorter looser ones, handy for nipping up the garden for a g&t.

We recently replaced more than half the carpet in our house with wood floors. Beautiful to look at - - really hard on the feet!

I bought a pair of slip-on Skechers like these, which are highly cushioned and easy on or off...strictly for in-house use.

These threads are normally good for a laugh with some of the filthy footwear on show, my tartan granny slippers are way cooler than your tartan granny slippers, but I'm tempted at taking a punt on these, it's like I've given up on life

I know you said no to open-backed, but in this weather, for me, it's my Rider flip flops all day.
    Alternatively, how about some espadrilles?

    Perfect!

For me, it is Birkenstock sandals in the summer and Crocs in the cooler seasons. The Crocs design thoughtfully incorporates holes around the sole area, allegedly to allow your dignity to flow out of! The perfect evolution of shoe design....

Try the crocs with the furry lining. They are super comfortable, warm in the winter, and you can throw them in the washing machine when the smell becomes unbearable.
