So the 5 is now the new incarnation of the SKX? Considering how popular the SKX is, it makes sense to adopt it into the new lineup.

One of my first automatic was the old day-date Seiko 5. Even then I couldn't believe how cheap it was for the watch that you get.

I like these, something like the lovechild of a field watch and a diver. Seem a bit expensive for a Seiko 5, though? I bought a metal bracelet 5 a couple of months ago for £75 at a jeweller's in Chelmsford. Discounted a bit, but still.

I don’t think this is a 5 and seems only available in Japan but it’s a lovely little thing.

The rrp is almost never what the real price is.

Yeah they are a Tic Tac limited edition - so pretty much unobtanium for anyone outside of Japan. But yes, very nice

The scalpers on eBay were definitely asking for north of 1k for it!

Infuriating that Seiko would make a lovely watch like this as a JDM LE, meaning scalpers grab them and flog at a premium and watch folk that would really love to own one never get a sniff. Their retail strategy is frustrating beyond belief.

Bear in mind they are basically an skx007 with reduced water resistance, a better movement, and a fixed bezel, and also that you never have to pay retail by shopping around and the price isn't too bad.

I think they'll settle at about £150. The stainless steel one looks lovely.

Yes, that sounds about right, the new srpd diver style versions can be found under £200 new. That stainless one is nice, like a cheap alpinist almost.

Imagine also a simple dial and hands swap, endless combinations for modders.

It would look much better if the angled 5 was removed from the dial and the automatic text in a different font.

Beautiful watches but near all the Seiko 5s don't look quite right to me with the 5 on the face. To me is just advertising that the watch is budget.

True but it’s easy to get hung up on details - remember it’s probably gonna come in under 200quid, and I don’t think there can be many complaints at that price. It does look decent

If its JDM I'm going to scream. Then buy it using a proxy service while constantly complaining about it.

Agreed, so many new Seikos spoilt by the logo these days, whether it's the dreaded X or now this strange S.

Its from an Instagram account called det.briscoe. David knows his stuff and is generally the first to 'break' seiko news.

As others have said, looks like an SKX equivalent of the Tudor Black Bay 36 & 41.

A good idea in my opinion. With the bezel removed, hopefully people won't mind so much that the 5KX line are "fake" divers due to the lack of a screw down crown, and ISO certification.

Sapphire, glass insert and crown at 3:00 that costs just 1/2 the price of this new 5

I doubt. I have the all-black new Seiko 5 and the lume is weak AF. But it doesn't matter as it's pretty understandable given the dark treatment.
With that said, I might sell that one and get this smaller black one as I don't actually need bezel inserts
