I had three 748s during my yoof, two BPs and an SPS. The first was written off in three days of ownership, courtesy of a lovely lady Volvo driver.

Hey Mike, great choice. You are following my footsteps well... 16600, 6.1GT3, and now 1098R... lol! I’ve had my 1098R over 10 years, have tracked and toured Europe with her, have blueprinted and upgraded most bits, and she remains in rude health. There is a lot that can/needs to be done to get them running as intended. Is yours one of the first homologation 500? Here’s mine

Thanks for all the comments guys! Mine is 2008 2 owner bike that was originally owned by the owner of Ducati Glasgow, it’s been a track bike all it’s life and has never had an MOT!! To that end ever panel/bit of bodywork/carbon and the tank have been in bubble wrap from new and they are factory fresh, the single piece carbon tail unit is a work of art! Apparently £4K if you want a new one!
It was collected on Thursday from the engine builder, it’s had a full rebuild including Pistal pistons and has a fair amount of other work done to it, DP exhaust cams and bell mouths etc, was mapped by Wilf at MotoRapido and has 190bhp!!! It also had the gearbox rebuilt and the forks. Essentially I’m stripping all the non standard bits off it and it will be out back to factory spec (bar engine internals) I’ve already taken off about £2ks worth of parts including Corse rearsets, Corse quick throttle, HM quickshift, Nemesis TC and DP billet levers.
I got it for a bloody good price and once I’ve sold those parts it will be even better! The plan is to send it to Geoff at Baines racing in a few weeks for a strip down and chassis repaint, the panels are going off to all be detailed and PPF’d and I’ve got a big list of bits to order from Ducati!
The strip down started yesterday!
In that shot is a box I didn’t know I was getting, the original factory, brand new still in wrappers Akrapovic Titanium exhaust! Was a nice surprise!!

Exhaust is now completely off and going to be polished again, I stuck in a £300 order for parts/fixings etc with MotoRapido and I’ve chased down on eBay some NOS original parts that were missing:
Left hand bar switches, standard gear linkage rod, number plate assembly/indicators, wing mirrors and ram air tubes. All parts I managed to sort at really decent prices which was nice!

I’ve had a busy day today.... I sat there looking at the bike this morning and thought rather than pay someone to strip it down I was more than capable to do it myself!

Anyway, out for a ride with Sam (samswatch) and Mark (skmark) this morning. Hopefully it'll brighten up a bit , although it's still early. I had intended to shoot some footage having adapted my Sena set-up to work with an open face helmet with earbuds and a boom mike. I don't think I can be arsed today, though.

I've always liked the look of a bike like this but despite being incapable of being sensible about anything else, refuse to let myself go down this route. My issue is when I have fast things I make them go fast as often as possible, so have spent more time enjoying slower things with no grip. Which won't really work on a road bike.
Still, this one looks superb and must be great fun to get hands-on sorting out. If only I had the self-control!

This is fantastic but I know if I did that I'd did that there'd be a small pile of nuts and bolts left over after reassembling...
Not long had my Ducati - so different to most bikes I’ve had before . The trellis frame is a work of art - I’m only just getting used to the dry clutch - my god it’s noisy . I’ve not been brave enough to fiddle with the steering angle adjustment yet - it’s on it’s most conservative setting but still feels like I can change direction by the tiniest of movements :)

Completely agree they are a piece of art, mines got a full 70mm Termi race exhaust system and it’s also very loud!! This is my 3rd Duke after a 748SP and a 1098S, absolutely love them, especially the end of an era, seat exit exhausts.
With regards to working on it, well to be honest I’ve found it super easy, helps it’s just been apart for an engine rebuild, however the downloadable 700 page ducati workshop manual is pretty good.

Well I’ve ordered loads of parts, most of which have arrived and I collected the frame from paint today and have started the rebuild, apologies for a lot of pictures!!
Do NOT apologise for loads of photos like that! Looks awesome with some beautifully understated, yet awesome, parts selected. It’s my dream to do something like this. I’m seriously considering getting a 749 and doing some gentle updates. In my heart I know that I won’t though. I think my biking days are over. I reserve the right to live vicariously through this thread though!
