I think it's an excellent idea and would enable interested parties to have resources in one place. I've seen other forums that have a specific sub-forum dedicated to brands and information.
Good shout :)
Being still new to the forum, I had a small idea and wanted to fly it past the community!
How about we create a thread by watch?
I know there are a few newbies (like myself) and myself who search for specific watches (Sub, GMT, Seamaster, Datejust etc) to see what people are saying, pictures and more info around the watch.
For example: Rolex Submariner - Info
All the content will be around the Sub
Thoughts?
Thanks

You mean turn TZUK into Watchuseek?

Yes - Good idea
I'm not a member there so don't know. I can only say that I would have benefited over the years from having a sub-forum dedicated to brands so I could obtain user experiences and opinions when considering a purchase or learn about brands that may have then piqued my interest.
.
Or, and this may be a controversial suggestion - simply avail yourself of the Search function in the top right hand corner of your screen.
There are 1000's of watch models - you'd still have to use the search facility even if the forum was sub divided into brands.
If it aint broke..............

might be more helpful if people identify what they don't like about the idea rather than simply voice disapproval and trash talk another forum
I think being able to tag threads with a given watch might be more useful, since that would allow threads, for example, comparing two watches to be associated with both. don't know if this is possible using vBulletin. also the search feature does a decent job with this already.
Ah, more two footed jumpers.......
Sounds like a good idea OP. The naysayers just want to shut down any desire for change for the sake of it (ooh no matron we've never done it like that!), except the few that say it would be like watchuseek. Well not really, watchuseek is very American-centric, and TZ members should be capable of maintaining the character of this forum.

OP.
I think it could get fragmented. There are hundreds of watches though (think of the many Speedmaster special editions alone, as an example) - it could get rather fragmented.
BTW - check the “Review” section - there are some excellent write ups about specific watches there. Maybe this will be the answer

I think it’s a bad idea, for many reasons.
The first one is that you haven’t used the forum much, and haven’t experienced what makes it what it is. So trying to change as you arrive is indeed rather insulting to our host, as Alfat33 pointed out.
The second is that we post rather a lot. So rare watches would have short threads, but ones like the one you started would soon run into tens, then hundreds of pages and thousands of posts. It would therefore not constitute a better way of finding your info.
Finally, just like entropy always increases, threads drift. It is part of their charm, and your idea would stifle drifting on these threads.
As was said, if you’re happier with this format there is an American forum waiting for you. Alternatively, if you think it’s a good idea to have a more British one, you can create it. You’ve had the support of some members here already.

Saint-Just - thank you for your detailed feedback and arguments.
I meant no offense to members and to our host who have built such a great platform and content. Might have jumped the gun on the other thread I spoke/acted out of turn
If the majority would prefer this not to happen more than happy to request for the thread to be removed
There has been some support some people for and some people against, I’m happy to help!
Thanks

OP you have every right to start a thread about pretty much anything - and we have the right to voice our opinions.
That's what makes this place so special.
"Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it's enemy action."
'Populism, the last refuge of a Tory scoundrel'.
You can start whatever thread you like, but you can’t force people to post in it — I realise that’s not your intention, but members will post about their Sub in whichever thread they please.
Which then defeats the object.
If you want to research a Sub, you’ll read the hundreds of threads already in existence, and your new one. But not your one exclusively.
Which again defeats the object.
I'm enjoying it here already, this threads a bit like an advance to contact across the naafi dance floor!
I'm not a fan of the idea personally as think it would predominantly clutter the forum. Many of the threads would also quickly disappear down the list making hard to find so users would have to use the search function. Therefore may as well scrap the thread idea and continue to use the search function.
I also thin finding specific information within a focused thread could potentially be quite difficult unless someone was updating the origianl post.
Thanks all for your continued feedback and views on this - all much appreciated
I’ve summarised the points so far:
Helpful:
Info about one watch collated in one place
Easy to find/post about specific watch
Help members with research
Not so helpful:
Thread becoming too long - difficulties to search/ find info in it
Finding specific info in thread could be difficult
People may/may not post in thread
ideas from debate:
Info could be housed in the reviews section of the Forum
Ability to tag posts to enable easy finding of threads
Thanks

Will we also be able to start threads on watches we hate?
I think you’ll find there are plenty of informal threads by watch type, typically starting with “show us your. . . “ as in “show us your G-shock” etc.
or
the “TZ UK Speedmaster Thread” etc
https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...highlight=Show
“nothing new under the sun”
try the search function.
The HMT thread on WUS is currently running at 250 pages
Will I do?
Or do you need him to find one?
